  1. Justin Trudeau will be posing for the cameras to appease his base and appeal to domestic audiences. There will no doubt be cute photo-ops and virtue-signalling sound bites intended to light up smiles among Liberal-friendly "progressives" (presumably minus some environmentalists, who've ditched him) but cause a lot of other Canadians to cringe. He is a marginal figure in world affairs and has rendered Canada's role more meaningless as time passes. Trump, if he's forced to be within reasonable proximity of Trudeau, will put on his best quizzical grin and promptly move on to more important leaders and matters.

  2. Global News.......not giving the full account. Leaving out crucial information by editing the message of Diane Ford. https://globalnews.ca/news/4252483/renata-ford-estate-lawsuit-doug-ford-randy-ford/ Compare with this: “It is heartbreaking that Renata has chosen to bring forward these false and baseless allegations against our family, right in the middle of the provincial election campaign,” said the statement from Diane Ford. “As a family, our one goal is to ensure Rob’s children are cared for and their financial futures are secure. Renata has serious struggles with addiction, and our hope is that she will accept help for the sake of herself and my grandchildren.” http://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/reevely-doug-ford-sued-by-brothers-widow-accused-of-siphoning-inheritance

  3. 1) Responsibility can be given/taken to/from individuals or legal entities like organizations, corporations, or nations IMO. They have a clear membership and corporate history. 2) It's not. It's a good thing to follow, for kharma, but it's as much of a brand as the NDP or Liberal parties "we care about people", ie. it's great for other people...

  4. Horwath is a dreary speaker - wall to wall cliches especially ‘everyday families’. Her supporters look bored stiff as they listen to her. This lawsuit against Ford could not be more cynically timed. Crazy family.

  5. He can work on the unity thing, but don't expect that to include the media. Like many conservatives he doesn't believe the media will give him a fair hearing because he's not their kind of people. And to be fair, he ISN'T their kind of people. And really, what's the alternative? A dogmatic and not very bright socialist party leader who is hostile to business and the profit motive, promises to make Ontario a sanctuary province for illegal immigrants, and can't imagine any circumstance where a government led by her would ever legislate anyone back to work?

  7. I'm a bit confused about this, given it directly followed your quoted material which was. Deco, they said, was well run under Doug Ford. But after the 2010 election, when he stepped away from day-to-day management, it descended into something between managerial gridlock and absolute chaos under the leadership of Randy Ford, Doug and Rob’s brother. It sounds like Doug was actually a good manager, but when his brother took over things went to hell. So this would seem to reflect badly on his brother, not Doug.

  8. He can wear any tee shirt he wants or no tee shirt at all. I don't care. What I care about are Horwath's policies. Others may react differently. That's their prerogative.

  9. It shows a lot about her character, especially in this day and age when it comes to sextist remarks, sexual harassment and such. If it was the other side you would be all over it and of course the media. But they have no problem trying to scores pts over this lawsuit thingy. And of course your last statement you just made.

  10. These days, polling has become a precariously inexact science. It's main role may be to predict trends rather than results. The actual election will probably come down to about two dozen ridings where vote splits will determine the ultimate winner. As polling indicates a slight improvement in Liberal fortunes, Wynne's decent debate performance (she is the best speaker among the three leaders and was less irritating than either Ford or Horwath) and her early concession speech seem to have strengthened Ford's hand in the swing ridings. So, the strategy backfired and now the Liberals seem to be backpedalling, focusing on demonizing Ford in order to get the minority legislature they supposedly prefer. Unless the NDP can siphon about a quarter of the 20% support now held by the Liberals, Ford will probably win a majority. But there are other factors in play, including overall voter turnout and whether younger voters will actually show up to vote. If only 50% of eligible voters cast ballots, Ford's likely the next premier. The trends are on Ford's side. I hope he has a great big thank you to Wynne written into his victory speech.

  11. My understanding is Doug looks after robs family very generously and robs wife has known addictions, that she would probably blow all the money in a very quick time. He is protecting her from herself. That has already been out in the media.

  13. So the G7 is getting set to start, and everyone with more than a single brain cell knows that the important issue is going to be international trade, and figuring out how to deal with the man baby from the US. And Justin Trudeau? Well, he has other priorities. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is looking to reassert Canada’s claim to climate change leadership at the coming Group of Seven summit, just a week after his government announced it would acquire the Trans Mountain oil pipeline and fund its expansion. Mr. Trudeau will host Group of Seven political leaders at the summit in Charlevoix, Que., this week and has said support for the Paris climate change agreement is a key priority, despite opposition from U.S. President Donald Trump. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/industry-news/energy-and-resources/article-trudeau-aims-to-reassert-canadas-claim-to-climate-change-leadership/

  14. I don't like to put my personal life out online and especially like to maintain my anonymity. But I'll make an exception here and say that I have suffered addictions in my life myself so have experienced addictions. Those who oppose ID and fingerprint scanning at casinos or who support the sale of tobacco or alcohol at grocery stores or who support the decriminalization of cannabis have never experienced addiction. Any addict will tell you that he wants the government to make it harder, not easier, for him to access the drug he's addicted to. If you look at gambling in Singapore, it's a problem and they even consider it a crisis, yet it's not nearly as bad as the problem in Canada. Why you might ask. The answer is simply that they have implemented and enforce an effective self-exclusion policy. In comparison, Ontario's self-exclusion policy is useless. I've never suffered nicotine addiction, but I have a hard time imagining that a nicotine addict who's trying to quit wants the government to allow grocery stores to sell tobacco products. I can imagine how a recovering alcoholic would not appreciate alcohol being sold in an open isle at a grocery store either. You have to have suffered addiction to understand the mind of an addict.
