This is not a reward for his actions. This is a reward for his rights being violated. If the Canadian government did not fuck up and was not complicit in his rights being violated, there would be no payout + the millions that has been spent in legal fees. Yes we do. But forced relocation is another genocidal tactic, used by Canada in the past but never helpfully. We also tried taking all their children and putting them in brutal 'reeducation' schools, and scooping their children and putting them in white foster/adoptive homes. None of those genocidal strategies has been beneficial to them. Perhaps instead of suggesting disgusting unilateral genocidal tactics, our governments need to listen to what Indigenous people say their needs are and address those needs. I believe we should start by providing the same level of funding as other Canadian kids have for education, child care, health and social services, ensuring that they can access healthy foods, and have facilities and funding for sports and other activities. You got one saying a 10.5 million out of court settlement is not a pay off and the other pretending he is concerned about how much the case will cost but isn't concerned by the fact that by not challenging the amount of the award this sets a precedent for all future terrorists to demand financial compensation when their Charter rights are violated. The Supreme Court would have deliberated long and hard on the clean hands and public morality doctrines and probably have allowed the legal fees of Kadr paid but reduced the personal compensation only to a nominal amount to prevent the appearance that terrorists can benefit from their illegal actions. Without this reference and decision we have a huge problem until the next government faced with terrorism pushes for such a reference. That's the issue Omni tried to clumsily spin to avoid discussing and Hudson Jones pretends was decided by our courts already.

Anybody who is a Canadian citizen and is living in Canada and is a tax payer is a Canadian regardless whether she or he is born here or the color of skin or national origin and must enjoy equal rights and with rights also comes responsibility like respect for other races and religions and especially respect for women. That said I would prefer to see more European immigrants and South Americans and even South East Asians rather than from Middle East, Africa and India/Pakistan because of cultural compatibility the former groups being more compatible and not skin color.
