You know it's time that conservatives come together and discuss this problem.

Harpers gov't seemed to do a stellar job before the Lebanon crisis. When he declared he supported Isreal and declined in the polls, he then changed his tune very qucikly and continued to stay low in the polls. This is before Dion was even in the picture.

Harper began to act like a Liberal and pander for votes. He decided not to speak to the media anymore, and he decided to govern to the polls.

His office took away the income trusts and broke a promise.

He then did the stupidest thing to man and impose economy killing environmental regulations due to the media hype of the month (which has now died down if anyone has noticed). This was all done for the polls.

Now he's at a Hindu temple pandering for votes and giving money to special interest groups.

Our provincial opposition leader is promosing to fund religious schools with public funding if he's elected which is not in the best ineterest of the Canadian public but only his election campaign. Even the Liberals refuse to do it because it would create more segregation which has proven to be unhealthy in Canada.

They have given 1.4B to natives in Quebec.

They have further divided Canada and created ethnic segregation by declaring Quebec as a seperate nation.

At this point, as a conservative, I feel that there's not a party that is reprenting my values. I feel that the conservative party is getting too corrupt and simply are existing to pander for votes. He should check the polls becuase it's NOT WORKING. They have done nothing about the immigration policy, they have done nothing about our real problems. If there are labor shortages in Alberta, then as a gov't he needs to FIX IT. Not give 1.4B to ethnic groups in nation within a nation.

He needs to get out of the religious mosques and hindu temples and get his *ss in gear and fix our problems. Maybe THEN he will get some respect and the polls will go up for him. I almost can't believe this is the same person.

Maybe you don't have any "values" worth representing.

That depends if you are one of them or one of us.

Regardless, if your values are not cultural oriented, count as nothing.

To take power, the Conservative Party must be a big tent. The question is where to stake the tent pegs.

So far, I think Harper is doing not too bad. Let's remind him of the size of the tent but let him decide where to place the pegs. This is a work in progress.

August, I completely agree about the need for a big tent.

I don't know if your questions about his spending really goes along with your letting him decide where to place the pegs argument.

The whole pandering for votes argument isn't a little ridiculous.

While pandering is a pretty negative term, it is a necessary evil for gaining power.

Did Margaret Thatcher pander? (Of course she did. Such is the compromise of power.)

But the nature of leadership is that sometimes a leader doesn't pander.

On what ideas will Harper lead? This is a work in progress but for starters, he's already shown that a WASP can win votes in Quebec. I'm impressed.

Shhh.... Moral victories are for wimps. We conservatives are quite happy that Harper has been pandering to the left wing.

Yes, we can feel that a majority is within reach.

Yes, we can feel that a majority is within reach.

I'd like to see polls which reflect that though.

You are under the assumption that he is going to magically change back into the old Harper once he gets a majority. I've been wishfully thinking for long enough but I certainly don't want someone in office who's going to let in immigrants unchecked, ruin our medica..

look.

Canada needs 2 tier healthcare, reformed immigration, and lower taxes. Why should I cheer on the Conservatives if they are not gonig to fix these problems?

And the retard Liberals? The ones who want to stop the oil sands in Alberta, let 500,000 people in a year, and completely ruin the country from University intillectualism. Them I don't even take seriosly.

I wish there was a real conservative party. Or maybe some new Alberta seperation party so I can move there and get out of this hole of a province.

The Liberals have their own "Stockwell Day" his name is Stephane Dion.

Stephane Dion has no clue

He asks if the audience is proud of Arthur Lee, who Dion claims to be the first Chinese Canadian Member of Parliament in 1974, serving under Pierre Trudeau.

It took that long to elect a Chinese Canadian, notes our Opposition Leader with the PhD. Says Dion, "It took time, eh? Only 1974, the first one." Dion then puts on a face that seems to suggest that Canadians not of Chinese descent ought to feel somewhat ashamed for not being liberal enough in 1974.

I don't feel ashamed. Why? Because it didn't take until 1974! The first Chinese Canadian MP was Douglas Jung, who was elected in 1957. I had no problems finding this out. Why did Stephane Dion and his brain trust miss that one? Could it be willful ignorance?

Douglas Jung joined the Progressive Conservative Party in the early 1950s. He had vowed not to join the Liberal Party of Canada because of its racist legislation against Chinese in the past. Jung was elected as an MP in 1957, representing the riding of Vancouver Centre, under the John Diefenbaker government.

Stephane Dion did not have the guts to stand in front of a group of Chinese Canadians, Liberals in fact, and tell them the true history of one of their proudest sons.

Or Dion was simply ignorant.

But then Stephane is also deaf. In the House of Commons, MP Jim Abbott made this pronouncement on June 8:

Mr. Speaker, 50 years ago on June 10, 1957, Canada's first Asian Canadian was elected to Parliament. As a Conservative, Douglas Jung was nicknamed the “Giant Killer” when he took out the Liberal minister of defence in that election. It was just one milestone in his notable career in Canadian public life.

Three days later, on June 11, Meili Faille of the Bloc Quebecois joined in noting this important anniversary:

Mr. Speaker, yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the election of Douglas Jung, the first Canadian of Chinese origin to be elected to the House of Commons for the riding of Vancouver Centre.

Stephane Dion?, maybe they should change his name to Celine Dion.:D

If Rick Mercer did that it would definitely, definitely go a long way to discrediting the view held by many Canadians that the CBC is biased to the left in Canada.

Then again, why should the CBC allow such a move?

They have repeatedly shown their bias without fear. What's to stop them now?

If Dion was touting some ridiculous idea that citizen sponsored referendums would be binding on Parliament you can bet you bottom dollar that Mercer would be sponsoring a referendum to change Dion's name.

It still doesn't justify you calling Harper a joke.

Harper did that. Day didn't.

Harper may pander to Canadians to win votes - just like Dion and Layton -

BUT unlike Dion and Layton, Harper had shown on two occasions that I know of, he doesn't pander to other world leaders! A wimp or a push-over, he's definitely not!

As a Canadian, I still relish that event when my Prime Minister got the French PM so frustrated during the Lebanon-Israel war ...and eventually got them to capitulate to what he (Harper) wanted them to do.

He fights for his principles.

Yes and if you noticed these things happened before and shortly after the Lebanon issues. Even him standing up to the Chinese.

Since then he hasn't been the same. Dion is not even competition and is a joke. I mean is TIMING was excellent becuase of all the environmental stuff that just happened to start in the news during that time, but I cant even remember the last time i've even heard the wod 'climate change'.

Even the concert this summer did such poor ratings in the US, that it was similar to a hockey game.

I feel that Harper should focus more in fixing our problems. If Ontario gets PC leadership, then i'd say the CPC will win a majority and to call an election as soon as possible.

At this point its up to the stonage. They will determine who will be our next majority. Then Harper better fix our problems.

Principles?

Tell us again, real slow, why Canada is in Afghanistan?

Of course this has nothing to do with pandering to the U.S. and it's interest.

His principles may not agree with your own principles. That is not to say that his are not principles.

That it may just happen to coincide with the US interest does not necessarily mean Harper himself does not see it from that same point of view.

If he truly happens to believe that capital punishment is wrong and therefore do not legalize it, does that means he is pandering to those who think the same way?

I remember a leader who stood up and said no, this military action is not justified and we will not be a part of any coalition that doesn't have the sanction of the UN. That took cajones.

Now the Leader of the opposition at the time however.... well, he just told lies.

and was very clear about what he would have done...

Do you have any polls taken at the time of the Fox interview to back up your assertion? Or are we just to take you at face value when you call our Prime Minister a liar?

I didn't at the time of writing that, but it only took me about 12 seconds to find one...
