scribblet Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Not sure if this is the right forum for this This is a young Somali woman who to this day still receives death threats for her views - people in her country have been killed for their views but Avi Lewis still has the gall to attack her for expressingthe same views. He literally compares an abortionist shooting to all the abuses in the Islamic world as proof that the U.S. and Christianity are just as bad. This really typifies the inability of the left to understand the differences, they need to walk a mile in this lady's shoes (and others like her). Not to mention he (surprise surprise, he's a Lewis and on CBC) is blatantly anti-American. http://www.cbc.ca/onthemap/fullpage.php?id=112 Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
ScottSA Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 I couldn't find the story. Is she mentioned in a story about something else? Quote
August1991 Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 I couldn't find the link to the interview either. If the CBC can use my money to have Avi Lewis do what he wants on air, then why can't it also invite, say, Mark Steyn to host a show too. I'm tired of State media only presenting one side of the story. Quote

ScottSA Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 (edited) I couldn't find the link to the interview either. If the CBC can use my money to have Avi Lewis do what he wants on air, then why can't it also invite, say, Mark Steyn to host a show too. I'm tired of State media only presenting one side of the story. I was looking at some of the other shows and their descriptions, and the whole thing reeks of leftism. Look for instance at this one: We've been focused tonight on the rising U.S. military presence in Africa, where the rhetoric of the War on Terror and the reality of America's thirst for oil are leading to new boots on the ground. And they're landing in the wake of the U.S.-backed invasion of Somalia by Ethiopian troops late last year. or this one For the last couple of nights on the show, we've been covering some politically complex territory. From a progressive point of view - and that's one of the more polite things mine has been called - debunking the hype about Ethanol risks providing fodder for global warming denialists. And advancing a critique of Phantom Aid could play right into the hands of those who want to discredit internationalism, or spend more tax dollars on tanks and fewer on generic drugs. But the answer is not to agonize unduly about how a story can be used. There will always be misanthropic columnists who deny scientific and social consensus. There will always be political and economic interests that masquerade as altruism. Edited July 19, 2007 by ScottSA Quote
scribblet Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 Open the link, then click on the video, you have to watch it - it takes a few seconds to start. With the Lewis's involved it's sure to be very left wing. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

ScottSA Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 I can't believe he got away with claiming that the current president "stole" two elections. Why wouldn't he be fired for that kind of irresponsible trutheresque claim? Quote
scribblet Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 If your a Lewis, you can get away with anything I guess, especially at the CBC. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
sharkman Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 You see, the CBCers are claiming a new even handedness, and no doubt the pointy heads there have been forced to tone it down a little. But under the surface, the leftist agenda is alive and well. That election comment is proof. I watch nothing from the CBC and will continue to do so until the day they change. Although I have been known to listen to Stuart McClean. Quote

Although I have been known to listen to Stuart McClean. I have never seen these claims? Do you know where they made them? Even attempting to make a claim like that is an absolute joke. Turn off the money tap and turn the CBC into PBS North. It's fine for the Trudeau-left to have an outlet to mold the minds of Canadians into their narrow view of what it is to be a good Canadian. marcinmoka Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 (edited) Is he not married to Naomi Klien? That in itself would volumes about this direction of his work. While in theory, the best political interviews are right on left, or left on right (otherwise it risks being a cheerleading session, where one is preaching to the choir), CBC should smarten up in this respect the notion of journalistic neutrality in this case. Avi Lewis does not even remotely attempt to hide his bias. It is like an equally stubborn, but leftist version of Bill O'Reilly. But for all mistakes they make, the CBC does find some occasional gems, notably Rex Murphy, who never fails to bring a smile to my face. My solution: hire Steve Paikin, of TVO's "The Agenda" and "Diplomatic Immunity" to rectify the CBC's journalistic integrity. Heck, hire the entire production team of those shows.
