Canuck E Stan Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 The Young Liberals have been posting ads this week. Pretty dumb but that's what it is about it seems.http://hi.im.a.liberal.ca/video.aspx?ad=crossdressing With these ads, I look forward to this bunch being Old Liberals. Michael Bluth Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 With these ads, I look forward to this bunch being Old Liberals. That's the problem with the Liberal Party of Canada. All the people in positions of power in the Party started out as young Liberal hacks. They carry that same mindset throught their "careers" in politics. Canuck E Stan Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Not the best ads that have ever been made. I would have expected something more creative from the younger political generation. I'm sure people their own age would call this stuff "lame". Too bad someone thought it was good enough to be viewed....... probably the two in the ads. Here is the story from the Toronto Star. http://www.thestar.com/News/article/219575 OTTAWA – Cash-strapped Liberals have launched a low-budget counter-attack against pricey negative Tory ads, using humour and the Internet to mock Prime Minister Stephen Harper.Young Liberals released three English-language ads today, all parodies of the popular Apple computer commercials, which they hope to disseminate widely through their website, blogs, YouTube, Facebook and instant-messaging programs. The federal party simultaneously posted a digital PowerPoint presentation on its website, making the case that Harper has ``plagiarized" U.S. President George W. Bush's tactics and policies. The presentation suggests the Harper government even shares the Bush administration's taste in interior design – a photo taken through a window in the prime minister's office building shows a 2004 Bush-Cheney campaign poster hanging on a Harper aide's wall. The two-pronged campaign came one day after the Tories launched their fourth series of television attack ads, aimed at driving home the message that Liberal boss Stephane Dion "is not a leader." (Can't believe I'm kinda standing up for Young Liberals.) But you gotta remember these are just university kids. Probably with very litle technical background. It was an interesting idea. Technically it was fine. Just very lamely written. Sorta like the grownups. No imagination. Just snottiness and looking down on the proletariat who denied them their place in power. Canuck E Stan Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 But you gotta remember these are just university kids. Probably with very litle technical background. Young people are the most savvy bunch when it comes to creativity and filming. They dance circles around the older generation when it comes to music/film/computer technology. Take a look on some stuff done on Youtube. Unfortunately in my view, this particular group just couldn't get it done. Au contraire my good friend. He is very creative. As a member of his high school young Liberal club, I think he did well,he turned from a non-creative Young Liberal, into becoming the 22nd PM. Young Liberals with political aspirations could learn a valuable lesson from this. Under Harper's leadership he turned the leadership of Paul Martin from talk of a record majority, to a minority to one of the most disappointing Prime Minister's in the last 100 years. He did that with some very creative thinking after the 2004 election. Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice
noahbody Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 A good advertising strategy would have asked those who are unhappy to the crime bill is being held up to write their MP or senator. They should probably ask the Conservatives why they rejected fast track for the crime bills that was offered by the Liberals. I assume this is the reason: "The centerpiece of the government’s law-and-order agenda — and a key election promise — is a bill to impose mandatory minimum prison terms for a variety of gun-related crimes. The bill was gutted by the opposition last month." Ottawa Citizen Quote

Yes, but the mandatory prison terms was the key promise to the people of Canada. This is why it would have been a good topic for advertising as mentioned. Curious, politics aside, would you support the mandatory sentencing for gun crimes bill? Quote
gc1765 Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 No, it's because the Liberals think they are still running the government from opposition benches. The opposition parties got 58% of the vote, compared to 36% for the Conservatives. If the opposition parties (and thus, indirectly, 58% of the population) agree on an issue, why should the Conservatives (indirectly, 36% of the population) get their way instead? Because we live in a democracy and like it or not, our system says the party with the most seats runs the country. Unfortunately % of the population has diddly squat to do with it. Our system, had it been like France, would have eliminated the parties with the lowest number of votes from running in a follow up election. The opposition is nit picking on these bills and holding them up from passing because they are playing political games in hopes of forcing an election. This game playing will bite them in the ass.
