scribblet Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Talk about child abuse. Notice it was protested by animal rights people, but no protests about child abuse, that's even more bizarre. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1811 Baby's bizarre 'bite' of passage with cobra Source: Daily Mail Last updated at 11:31am on 9th May 2007 A one-year-old is forced to fight a neutered cobra during a shocking snake-charming rite of passage in India. The baby tries to protect itslef while being repeatedly hit by the animal, which has also had its mouth stitched up and its fangs removed. This bizarre spectator sport - reportedly from Kasimkota in Andhra Pradesh - has been condemned by animal rights protesters after footage appeared on the internet. They've warned that a cobra's fangs grow back quickly, putting the youngsters in mortal danger. Several snake charmers die each year while handling the animals. guyser Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Fight a cobra ?? That is plainly false. The baby could hardly hold its own head up. Dumb maybe, but not worth the ink wasted on the story. The snake did not bite because it could not bite. Quote

sharkman Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 How 'bout it's frickin' outrageous to put a baby with a wild animal?! The stupidest thing since Michael Jackson swung his baby from a balcony. What kind of hokey culture is it that allows babys to be treated this way? Quote

It was child abuse and should not be allowed. A child that young does not have the wherewithal to protect itslef. Unless you call the baby crawling toward the snake "protecting itself" . I doubt child abuse as nothing could happen , but definitely dumb.whether the fangs can grow back or not, it did not and could not use them. Either way, the baby was safe from harm. I watched the video. Stupid no matter how it is spun and should not occur. Quote

geoffrey Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 That's disturbing. I think we need to put some pressure on the Indian government to outlaw such a barbaric practice. You'd expect to see this in remote Africa, not a supposedly developing country. Disgusting filth that do such things. It's even worse that people stood around and watched. The parents need to be charged. Sick sick sick. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --

Black Dog Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 There's a great many parents who pose far greater risks to their kids than a defanged cobra. Quote

The baby could loose an eye if it smacked its head on a corner of a table. Again , parents are not worried, and it may not be ok, and it really is small potatoes in the overall scheeme of things. I'd say the parents being not worried is the least reason to not worry about the child since they put him next to a wild animal. Do you not see the cobra lunging at the baby's face? This is significantly more dangerous to an eye than a stationary table. BTW since the baby can only crawl at this point, the table is not a concern. Quote

Hey a kitten or a puppy can take out an eye easily as well. Wild animals, domesticated animals, mom did not aim the bottle at the mouth, that kind of thing. In the long run, this kid will not fear snakes much at all. Quote

sharkman Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Then why do you read it and add stupid thoughts like how you'd let your infant run with a rabid pit bull? Sentiments like that are why there are child care services. Quote
