scribblet Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 I know there was a thread on this but can't find it... oh well The Senate has passed a bill to fix federal election dates every four years. It is anticipated that the legislation will receive royal assent tomorrow, which will set October 19, 2009, as the date for the next election. Opposition parties will still be able to force an election by defeating the minority Conservatives in a confidence vote, but Prime Minister Harper will no longer be able to pull the plug on his own initiative (CP: TSun 22 and VProv A8, CG A8, Gaz A12; CTV 23:00). You wanna try that again? Canada is not a republic but Steve keeps on trying to change Canada to mirror the neighbours south of us, especially the republican party. BC is not a republic either but has fixed election dates. Sounds like some other provinces are following suit. They aren't republics either. If Chretien had done it when Clinton was pres I guess it would be OK right? Of course Chretien never would have because then he wouldn't have been able to call three elections on his own whim. Some things are just a good idea. "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
