M.Dancer Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) – An estimated 100,000 people rallied in Pakistan's largest city today against a radical Islamic mosque and seminary. The so-called Red Mosque in the capital Islamabad announced last week it was setting up of a court to deliver justice based on Sharia, or Islamic law. The mosque is suspected of having links with militants, including the Taliban. Students from the adjacent Islamic school have threatened proprietors of music shops and brothels in the relatively liberal city. The rally in Karachi comes a day after Pakistan's tourism minister said she fears for her life after being rebuked for hugging her French parachute jumping instructor. Clerics at an Islamabad mosque said the hug was "an illegitimate and forbidden act" and that the woman had committed a great sin. The rally was organized by the Mutahida Qami Movement, or MQM, a party based in the southern port city that strongly supports President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, who has promoted moderate Islam. http://www.thestar.com/News/article/203323 recently 300,000 in Turkey....now 100,000 in Pakistan...this would be a brilliant this if this spreads, it should be nourished, cherished..... DogOnPorch Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Pakistan dropped the old Hudood Ordinances last year, as well. betsy Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 recently 300,000 in Turkey....now 100,000 in Pakistan...this would be a brilliant this if this spreads, it should be nourished, cherished..... This is a good beginning. The internet should help spread this news around and hopefully, inspire other citizens from other countries to do the same. Those who fear of being under the rule of this oppressive religious extremist should use that same fear in fighting vigorously to squash it. Somebody should seriously think of getting rid of those clerics in that mosque....for good. Whatever form it takes. That should send a good message. Quote
scribblet Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 Maybe people are finally starting to wake up, here it looks like some women here are fed up and protesting against threats of beheadings, good for them, I just hope they don't lose their heads over it. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/866435.html Gaza women protest extremist group's threats of beheading By The Associated Press A group of female TV anchors marched through Gaza City on Sunday to protest a fundamentalist group's threat to behead them if they did not don modest Islamic dress. Around 50 anchors and employees from government-run Palestine TV, mostly women wearing Muslim headscarves, marched from the station's offices in Gaza City toward the office of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to protest the threat from a group calling itself the Swords of Truth, known for firebombing Internet cafes and record stores. "We will cut throats, and from vein to vein, if needed to protect the spirit and morals of this nation," the group said in a statement e-mailed to news agencies on Friday. The statement accused the female anchors of being "without any ... shame or morals." Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
sharkman Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 If this is a movement, I wonder how long it will be allowed to continue until the Islamist radicals decide to punish those countries as they have obviously done to the U.S.? Quote
jbg Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 If this is a movement, I wonder how long it will be allowed to continue until the Islamist radicals decide to punish those countries as they have obviously done to the U.S.?There are two alternative answers to this:As a religion of peace, they will respect the democratic rights of the protesters; or As a religion of pieces and will separate said protesters into discrete parts, such as arms, legs, head, all flying in a different direction.
