America seems stuck with just two ancient parties. In a normal democracy, creative destruction would work its wonders and new outfits would break through. Even a rebranding helps to keep the jaded show on the road. 

I would say the left will be strongest in the big cities, not so much farther out. The Democratic party is a broad church. Maher may be angry because Mamdani’s candidates did so well in New York. One thing seems likely: support from AIPAC and Co. will bring problems for any Dem hopeful in the near future.
