John Johnston Posted April 14 Report Posted April 14 The federal government says it will suspend the federal excise tax on gasoline and diesel from April 20 to Sept. 7, a move Prime Minister Mark Carney says will cut the price of regular gasoline by 10 cents a litre and diesel by four cents a litre. 1 Quote
Goddess Posted April 14 Report Posted April 14 Carbon taxes at the pump have been costing Canadians $0.30 a liter at the pump. If you have a 100 liter tank, that's $30 per fillup, about $1500 per year. At 10 million people, that's $15 billion per year they've been collecting on gas taxes. And that's not touching semi trucks yet. Or diesel vehicles. So the number is likely quite a lot more than $15 billion. Every year. Where has all that money gone? There's no reason for Canada to be in debt like this. I'm sure the media will credit Poilievre for this tax break. 1 Quote "There are two different types of people in the world - those who want to know and those who want to believe." ~~ Friedrich Nietzsche ~~
herbie Posted April 14 Report Posted April 14 Suspend the only part of gas sales that supports the entire country to counter the corporate market gouging of consumers. And you call the Libs 'the left'///ROFL 1 Quote

The Justin years all featured a deficit - doubled the net debt from 700B to over 1.5T by 2025. The debt-to-GDP ratio grew along with it of course, rising from 35 to 45 percent Just be grateful ur not an American where the debt is approaching 70 percent of GDP. Quote

herbie Posted April 14 Report Posted April 14 A country awash with oil reacts the same as ones starved by the Hormuz closure. Made in Canada response, eh? Quote

"Maybe you're just like my mother, she's never satisfied." The consumer carbon tax was eliminated effective April 1, 2025. 10 cents isn't much but every bit helps. Quote

Canada ranks: 1st in uranium 1st in potash 2nd in nickel 3rd in oil 5th in gold 1st in freshwater Countries start wars for less than this. There's no reason for 25% of country to be starving and skipping meals. There's no reason why 55% of our country should be financially on the edge. It took historic levels of incompetence and ideological sabotage to tank a country this blessed. Stop cheering for the crumbs and start demanding better. herbie Posted April 16 Report Posted April 16 (edited) OMG can't even remember what the carbon tax was a year later. Seems unaware the neither Ottawa nor Alberta set the price of oil. Doesn't matter if you're drowning in it the market speculators decide. And price and wage controls are the antithesis of conservative philosophy FFS Edited April 16 by herbie Quote
TreeBeard Posted April 18 Report Posted April 18 Nationalize oil and gas. It would be hard to invent a more destructive ritual of national self-punishment. Year after year, we hand oil companies gigantic tracts of pristine land. They skin them of entire ecosystems. They vacuum billions of dollars out of the country. Their oversized power, sunk into lobbying and litigation, upends government law-making. And Canada’s return? The exploitation of the tar sands provides just two percent of our GDP. It has gutted manufacturing jobs and made a mockery of our emissions targets. And now that oil prices are crashing – as resource commodities predictably do – it is putting a vicious squeeze on government spending. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/true-north/2014/dec/03/want-a-green-energy-future-nationalize-canadas-oil-industry Quote
