User Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 (edited) Canadians, I hope you’re sitting down. Preferably indoors. Preferably away from windows. @Radiorum Domestic drone surveillance is no longer a future concern in Canada. It’s here. Quietly. Politely. With government branding and a press release written in soothing font. Law enforcement agencies across Canada are expanding drone operations for “public safety”, “situational awareness”, and my personal favorite: “routine operations.” Routine. As in: nothing to see here while the robot floats above your backyard. And let’s talk about the language being used. Not “assistance.” Not “support.” But persistent aerial monitoring. A phrase that somehow manages to sound both boring and dystopian at the same time. This isn’t temporary. It’s structural. Police services are formalizing drone units. Training programs. Procurement pipelines. Storage policies. Which is a fun bureaucratic way of saying: “These drones are not leaving.” Modern police drones can: Track individuals across large areas Record high-resolution video and thermal imagery Identify devices via signal emissions Be deployed without your knowledge Operate legally because… reasons “But surely they need warrants,” you say. Sometimes. Unless it’s public space. Or exigent circumstances. Or training. Or testing. Or proactive deployment. Or “we felt like it.” And remember: Canada doesn’t even have a Fourth Amendment. You’ve got guidelines. Suggestions. A strong belief that everyone will be very reasonable. Guess who they’ll go after first: Protesters (for their safety, of course) People near infrastructure People who look interesting from above People who didn’t think this applied to them All of this is being normalized under the comforting assumption that only bad people should worry. A classic. Timeless. Never once aged poorly in history. So what is Canada becoming? A nation of polite compliance Eyes in the sky operated by very friendly officers Surveillance, but with apologies Sleep well, Canada. If you hear a soft buzzing above the snowfall, it’s probably nothing. Probably. 🍁🛸 Edited January 14 by User Quote

ExFlyer Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 Good grief..... Your next door neighbour or anyone that wants can buy a drone and "spy" on you and do. They are all over the place nowadays. Don't let your paranoia drive you to the basement LOL Quote You are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to tell me what mine should be.

WestCanMan Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 This wouldn't have bothered me ten years ago, but after seeing our gov't go fascist during covid, how the media has started to openly fly their LPoC banners, and how much control TNI has over our information sources, this is like the final nail in the coffin for democracy. 1 Quote If the Cultist Narrative Network/Cultist Broadcasting Corporation gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed. That sort of describes the world we now live in , doesn't it? As for the drones.... if it makes it easier for those in security or law enforcement to apprehend criminals or catch them in the act, then I have absolutely no problem with it. My problem would be with idi^t neighbours who think they have the right to invade the privacy of others. Quote

I use to do business in England in the 80's and there were security cams on almost every street corner even back then. Commercial adoption in the 1970s, the first home security patent in the late 1960s, and widespread digital/IP cameras in the late 1990s Quote You are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to tell me what mine should be.

Not quite the same as police using drones as a resource to apprehend criminals. jmo 1 Quote

No is ever more than a phone call or a letter or two away from being investigated in Canada. It's been that way forever. Thanks for the welcome back, User. Actually, I am a retired teacher who took up writing as a hobby in my retirement, and I have spent the last few days working on a couple of short stories. And I needed to get away a bit from the constant hate and insults on this forum. It seems the world around us is burning, and there are posters here who are only concerned with inflicting damage on the ones they perceive to be their enemies. 1 Quote
