Deeply worrying. I’m hoping this is more spillover from a massive drone armada heading to Ukraine than a deliberate attack on Poland. Russia could drag the continent into war. Madness.

The article answered your question...

Rutte said the alliance’s response was “very successful” and showed that NATO was able to – and would – defend “every inch” of its territory.

He added that the wider operations involved Polish F-16 and Dutch F-35 jets, an Italian early warning aircraft, German Patriot systems and a NATO refueling aircraft.

Putin doesn’t fear Trump. That’s one of the basic problems here. He gets away with ignoring him.

Why say Trump?

It is not only Trump pushing for peace and supporting Ukraine. He didn't fear NATO, still doesn't or any of their leaders or Biden or anyone else supporting Ukraine...

Because Trump is the US president. He has to take the blame now. Biden wasn’t tough enough either but at least he didn’t keep on making ridiculous statements about Putin or humiliate one of the great men of our time in the White House.

Yeah... but Ukraine is being backed and supported by more than the US. It seems you are more interested in getting a jab in at Trump.

Trump doesn't have to take the blame for much of anything here. This was not his mess and he is working to bring it to an end.

That "great" man of our time should have known better than to say what he did in the Oval Office; apparently, he was not so great at politics when his country needed him.

The US is by far the most powerful member of NATO. Its position on Ukraine is of vital importance to the alliance. Thus Trump’s meandering and confusing statements on the war actually matter.

Oh FFS this was a deliberate probe by Putin to confirm TACO that worked. So he did it again over Romania and knows for sure.

Poland should launch unarmed missiles into Belarus and try the same test back.

The point of contention was not whether his statements "matter"

Of course they do. In fact, such a vaguely described term can apply to just about anyone involved in NATO.

Beside how to spell strategy what the hell would either of you know about it? Can't even see the obvious in front of your face.

A strategist executes the strategic strategy which depends upon the tactical technicians planning of said strategic designs.

We same the same as you, however our eyes are open.

You're speaking to a claim that NATO's response was deadbeat. When there was an immediate notification and the appeasing milquetoast who thinks he's the head of it all TACOs again with how it may have been a mistake and if everyone else gives a slap on the wrist he may join in.

Kennedy and Reagan are laughing from above, pointing fingers and ahouting Cluck! Cluck! Cluck!

What did Canada do about it?

It never ceases to amaze me how faithfully some people will defend an avowed enemy of this country on this Canadian forum.

Sure, just not sure where that was happening here in this particular discussion.

Canada has refused to increase nato spending until after Trump leaves office. So until such that as the defense spending goes up, Canada remains amongst the deadest of deadbeats.

The baltics are rattling under Russian provocation. The real test is NATO’s response, not just the military response.

Poland? 1939? Hitler, Stalin? Evil? Mao?

IMHO, in 2020, this has all the makings of the stupidity of August 1914.

Let's get along.

Only after Canadians admit they're actually Americans.

Huh?

How many Newfoundlanders died in the foolishness starting in 1914.

You Americans wisely avoided the disaster until 1917. And then, you made things worse.

(I suspect that Wilson could not have made things better.)

Hitler was a direct result of World War I - the folly of August 1914.

No 1917 was the start of American pre-eminence. It paved the way for this long peace. America learned that we would not be left alone in the European conflagration. That we would have to create a new world order after Victory.

American pre-eminence was the period after your Civil War, panic of 1873, panic of 1893.

The so-called period, nowadays, of the "Robber Barons".

You Americans became important.

They're still fucing it up. Russia is still preparing for an eventual war with NATO. Why? Because they're Russian and they think imperial conquest is what will save them from extinction. They're wrong but not in the traditional sense, they should have joined the EU and signed security Agreement with the rest of Europe via NATO. Global trade ended the imperial age.
