And while PP stands up in the House and whines...Carney is discussing Canada with world leaders and gaining respect.....

By Peter Jones ..
When Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke this week at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, it wasn’t just another stop on the circuit. The Russell C. Leffingwell Lecture is where world leaders set out their vision for the future. Carney used it to show that Canada is ready to stand on its own feet in a world that feels more fractured every day. He didn’t come with slogans — he came with a steady plan.
He began with the hard truth. The old order — open trade, strong global institutions, NATO security, even geography protecting us — isn’t holding the way it once did. Authoritarian states are not opening up. The U.S. is more transactional, chasing quick deals instead of long-term rules. Rivalries are sharper, technology shrinks distance, and Canada can’t just depend on geography anymore. In short: the easy days are over.
But Carney’s message was not doom. He pointed to what Canada has: clean energy, critical minerals, AI and quantum talent, pension funds that can invest, and a tradition of pluralism and debate. He outlined three priorities: build strength at home with tax cuts, fast-track projects, and doubled defense; diversify abroad with new trade deals in Europe, Mexico, and Asia; and practice what he called “variable geography” — backing Ukraine, standing firm in the Arctic, and joining partners to reduce dependence on China for minerals.
The Q&A showed his caution and clarity. When pressed about Canada’s reliance on the U.S., Carney was blunt: we must be “masters in our own house.” That doesn’t mean slamming the door on America — we respect our shared families, culture, and geography — but it does mean balance, not dependence. Any deal with the U.S. has to be on Canadian terms, not dictated from Washington. He tied defense not just to budgets but to AI, cyber, and minerals. On housing, he stressed billions already fast-tracked, while reminding that supply takes time to ramp up. And on foreign policy, he said Canada still stands by the UN Charter and self-determination, even if others step back.
Here’s where I want to make it plain. Carney can announce big things — tax cuts, defense hikes, energy corridors — but that doesn’t mean the results arrive tomorrow. Building Canada’s future is like building a house: you don’t just snap your fingers. You need zoning, foundations, electricians, drywallers. Or like planting a seed: it takes time before you see fruit. Critics will grab quick sound bites about money wasted or “no shovel in the ground yet.” But investment works differently. You put out money to make money, and the returns come back stronger later. This is not new either — Carney has been consistent since taking office: pushing trade with Europe and Asia, driving interprovincial trade at home, and leading with minerals and clean energy. The pattern is there if you look.
Carney isn’t flashy. He doesn’t play to the cheap seats. He is steady and precise — and that’s exactly what Canada needs. While the U.S. is busy tearing itself apart, Canada is charting its own course with respect but independence. We’re not kneeling, and we’re not picking fights. We’re building step by step, in our own way, and that’s why our country will stay strong.

But he's losing a lot of respect with Canadians. And just like Justin he'll start off with respect in the world because he's saying the right things but he won't do the right things and then he'll look like a jackass again

Carney is failing and it's not even close

Facts??? It is some social media posters opinion LOL

Far from crying, (and why would I cry? conservatives are still in second place and not the government :)),  just smart enough to know what is opinion and what is true polling LOL.  Something that you are incapable of LOL

Your youtube video is from "The National Telegraph which is the home of Canadian political commentary videos from Wyatt Claypool where politics are discussed from a Conservative perspective."...clearly partisan LOL

"According to a new study by the Angus Reid Institute, Prime Minister Mark Carney leads Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre in net favourability by 32 points.

Net favourability of Carney sits at +9%, significantly higher than that of Poilievre (-23%).

“Unfortunately for Pierre Poilievre, he continues to struggle to resonate with a larger group of Canadians. The CPC leader’s personal favourability continues to hover in the mid-30s. He has failed to reach 40% since taking over the CPC leadership in 2022.”

Sure. Well them, the globe and mail, the toronto star of all people, the national post, the tyee (which is as left as it gets), ctv, mainstreet polling, angus reid, leger, abacus, and the canadian people.

But only according to those groups, for sure. :)

Yikes.  Currently Canada spends $50+ billion dollars a year on just interest on debt thanks to Trudeau.  Carney is set to make that much worse.

Uhhh, I have no idea what that means or what you are trying to imply? LOL

Bottom line, if tariffs drop on imports we need and use, than that is good. Hopefully there will be more. Be aware though, Carney may not ask you if it is OK LOL

Your month old link to Todayville that does not even address the latest tariff drops is worth what?
