Mulroney tried several remarkable policy things/changes:

1. Free trade with the US.

2. GST/VAT

3. Meech Lake, nw.

4. SO2 Environment market.

5. Aparthieid.

===

IMHO, the GST is the most remarkable Mulroney.

==========

Harper, he got rid of the penny.

==========

Trudeau Jnr, he legalised marijuana.

==========

Chretien/Martin, they reduced spending.

In 1972, Trudeau Snr totally bungled the Victoria constitutional agreement.

(An agreement that would have given the Quebec State a veto of any federal Constitutional change.)

Then, Trudeau Snr stepped in and fouled up the far better Mulroney agreement that would have made federal Canada sustainable.

Make no mistake: Quebec soverainty will be an issue. Heck, why can't the Liberals win?

We Canadians get along. So, I have no doubt that we will survive whoever wins this Apr 2025 federal.

Legacy? I reckon that Poilievre, if he wins and forms a majority, it will make us change.

If the federal Liberals win, Carney, it will be the same: conservative

I'll be impressed the day someone puts an end to daylight saving time.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

LOL.

Mulroney also tried to reform UIC.

=====

I think Trump wants to impose a federal VAT. Like Mulroney, Trump knows that a federal consumption tax will make the US federal America sustainable.

The GST and US free trade are Mulroney's greatest achievements. He failed with Meech.

What does Trudeau Snr have as legacy? The Official Languages Act, the Charter, a f*up Constitution, amending formula.

Both Mulroney and Trudeau Snr kept the country together, without bloodshed - and in decency.

Change back to the harper yrs when the country was overall happy.

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

Yeah people who believed Harper on income trusts were sure happy weren't they?

I mean Harper did the right thing by closing a corporate tax loopholes so I guess this really said more about people who are unhappy with having to pay their fair share.

Now PP is saying he'll prevent Canadians from using tax havens?

Debates between PP and Carney around tax havens should prove interesting. I can already see the Cheshire grins on Jagmeet Singh and Jonathan Pedneaults faces.

More or less.

The Trudeau Jnr years have been too much social change.

Agreed, but there's some closer scrutiny required on that statement.

The obvious is 'trans rights' which were enshrined into law, and which took with them myriad questions in the legal, social, moral sphere... to the point where this ostensibly tiny but frankly shocking social change got far too much (IMO) focus.

Beyond that, moral/social changes followed the usual slow march as they have in the decades before.

But economic/social changes were also huge and hard for people to wrap their heads around...

So regardless of what you meant, Auguste, you are correct.

IMHO, Justin Trudeau was like his mom, crazy.

Many voters chose him for the name, and women voters thought he was cute.

Carney is another story.
