Trump hates losers.  Soldiers who are captured are losers.  Politicians behind in polls who might lose an election are losers.  Trump likes to be seen backing a winner to stroke his own ego. Hence his “support” for Carney.

What does it matter that Pierre is four-eyed? It's not like the Prime Minister is going to have a cage match with Trump. I mean when people refer to Trump as being tough it's not because of his physical prowess. Pierre has been a bulldog for years now. That's why he won leadership of the party. People loved him because he was an attack dog. He is not a political weakling. 

Carney is a political weakling. The guy looks like a deer in the headlights everytime he faces the media. You can tell the man has very little backbone, and even less personality.
