The US population will start declining in the next 10-20 years. What should the US be doing to prepare for this?

A lot of Americans feel that the immigration situation along with the culture war is the most important battle. I think that they will be impacted more by the population decline than silly things like drag queen story hours.

I am not impacted by someone I don't know or have any involvement with getting stabbed to death walking down the street... its still wrong. 

I can also chew bubble gum and walk at the same time. 

As silly as you think caring about drag queens being used to influence children is... others do not and have the capacity to care about that as well as immigration. 

So, not sure what your point is here in trying to contrast these things is.

this topic will be deemed trivial and only for nerds. its because there is no daily news, no outrage, etc. Yet 10 years down the road.. this will impact their daily lives in a direct and unavoidable way regardless of their political preferences. Its much like water rights in the West. Liberal or Conservative.. still need water unless you can prove otherwise.

Sounds more like wishcasting on your part. As evidenced by your avoidance of the question and bringing this up to begin with. 

Are you a big fan of using drag queens to influence children? Just the story hours? What about public schools bringing them into the classrooms regardless of what parents think about it?

I think that they are trivial at best and that folks superficially inflate the relevance of them. 

So when I see grey clouds coming in and say that its going to rain or snow... I am wishcasting. Fascinating logic, I have to say. Simply reading the writing on the wall means that I have an agenda.

They are not trivial or inflated by the people impacted. They are not trivial or inflated by the people pushing this and wanting more of it. 

It is wishcasting because you don't see clouds coming in... you are saying that you think there will be clouds coming in with no evidence showing that.

There is plenty of data to back this up. Low birth rates, census data showing population declines or slow growth, etc. I look at data and can see trends. Being able to see year over year declines is having an agenda? If so, why are you on this forum when you should be a stand up comedian.

Oh.. so there is no agenda in reading data and seeing population declines.. Good to know. Observing reality according to most people (you included) means that I have something against someone. 

About drag queens.. here is my view. Here in Reno, NV we have one or two drag queen story hours per year. They are attended by 15 to 20 kids and then the parents so a total audience of 25 to 30. Two sessions so 50 to 60. The Reno - Fernley Combined statistical area has a population of 682,828 as of 2023. So lets do some math... I know math is agenda driven. 2 days out of 365 = ? Hmmm... that is 0.55%. So only .55 percent of the days in a year have drag queen story hours. Second, the audience. 60/682828 = 0.008786. That is a pretty small percentage. Now of course there are protesters. At the last one that my family attended, there was an estimated 20. Still 80/682828 is pretty small. Lastly... geographically. the one building that housed this drag queen story hour is 9000 square feet. So if you were not in the nearby vicinity.. you could effectively avoid it. How big is the Reno-Fernley CSA.. 122.1 square miles or 3,403,952,640 square feet. 9000/3403952640 is 0.000264 of the land area. Lastly, this entire charade lasted 2.5 hours or 150 minutes. So that is 150/525600 or .0028% of the year. 

the above reality... shows that very few are directly affected. Its simple math which does not demand your approval. As for my kids who have attended two of these, they fell asleep. The drag queens do not touch the kids nor was there any exposed genitalia. The stories read were rather ordinary.. no sexual content of any kind. Oh.. but according to you they are scarred for life. Even though, they never even once mention them. If you need further evidence... I could search the police databases for sexual assaults on those days. Care to guess how many there are and if one of the two drag queens was the assailant?

Now compare that to the impacts of population decline or growth. How many of the 682,828 are affected by the growth/decline in the population? A whole lot more than .008% of the population  for sure.  Decreasing population would affect every single resident to some degree whether to cared or not. Gas taxes, property taxes, employment, taxable sales, personal income are all affected directly by population.

I agree, my parents are of an age where they are frequently needing intense health care services. My mom is in at-home hospice etc. It's already a situation where almost all of her doctors, nurses, and nursing aides even here in suburban Iowa are immigrants and even retired people filling in.

And the population over 65 is not yet even at 20%. By the time that percentage doubles I think the number of elderly people who will die in their homes after quietly suffering alone uncared for could be much higher and life expectancy much lower.
