Tariffs are a tax on consumers. Government charges the tariff and pockets the money while consumers pay more for the goods. That's a tax in my book. They also allow domestic manufacturers to be less efficient.

Ok even though you didn't answer the question, you seem to be implying that a small list of countries would be on "the list" for tarrifs.

I did answer the question, despite it being a stupid question in the first place.  You just don't like the answer.

And i'm not implying anything. Is my hair orange? Do people call me donald? Have you had a doctor look at that concussion of yours?

What I said is that i would expect that tarrifs would be used where appropriate and in the case of an "entire country"'s product that would normally be countries engaged in terrorist or other similar activity such as russia as a punative measure as we've seen before.

FFS.  Get a grip kid.

Trump did a bunch of China tarrifs when he was president. What it did was cause China to operate through other countries.

That still cuts into the profits of china and makes it harder for their industries. It costs them money and market share.  And trump can easily threaten to tarrif mexican products if it comes to that JUST AS HE DID WITH CANADIAN STEEL, which was buying chinese steel and rebranding it as canadian.

Tariffs are a blunt tool. They are kind of like military conflict, they're what people reach for when they have failed to use other and better methods  to resolve issues. But just like  military conflicts sometimes they're just is no way around it.  If you can't come to a reasonable agreement and there's no other choice, that's what you do.

And they're not a 'tax'.   They feel sort of like a tax but the purpose of a tax is to raise money to pay for gov't services, whereas a tarrif is a tool to control and influence trade between nations.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data
