Trump: “We gave Miriam the Presidential Medal of Freedom. That’s the highest award you can get as a civilian, it’s the equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor, but civilian version. It’s actually much better, because everyone gets the Congressional Medal of Honor – that’s soldiers. They’re either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead… She gets it and she’s a healthy, beautiful woman.”

He was referring to Miriam Adelson, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Trump because of her great sacrifice of being Trump’s largest campaign donor. And, while giving a politician $75 million is certainly a sacrifice, it hardly compares to jumping on a live grenade to save the lives of your colleagues.

This from the man who insulted John McCain for being shot down in combat, imprisoned, and tortured. The man who got five draft deferments, including one from a faked medical diagnosis of bone spurs.  The man who called veterans “suckers” and who told the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to never put a crippled soldier on stage with Trump again, because it makes Trump look bad.

Not Fit For Service.
He cannot even legally own a gun, or get hired for a Federal job, because he’s a felon 34 times over.

Amazing how much the Republicans hate service members. John Kerry had three Purple Hearts and it wasn’t enough. Tim served 24 years and it wasn’t enough.

Now draft-dodger Cheetos man gives a medal to a campaign donor and he says it’s greater than the Congressional Medal of Honor.

This is one of the few times that Trump is being honest. This is actually how he feels, and he has consistently expressed his disdain for military service over and over again through word and deed.

His followers just don't care.

I think Trump, being the clown he is, completely butchered saying something profoundly true.

The Medal of Honor is awarded to people based on death and/or serious injury where almost certainly others did die in horrific combat circumstances.

He was trying to say that the Civilian award is better because those getting it didn't get it based on people dying in combat and being significantly wounded.

You don't get to "celebrate" someone getting the Medal of Honor the same as you do the civilian award.

You talk to people in the military who have the MOH, the Navy Cross, Bronze or Silver Stars... they don't generally go around bragging about how they earned them, as if it were some individual effort of great accomplishment free from any bloodshed.

Its not quite the same thing as being proud of your Achievement Medal for doing something above and beyond to create value in your field, like a mechanic keeping all the vehicles running well...

The issue, again, is that he lied and trumped up his service to more than it was.

No no no… nice try with the spin.

He was asked about this the very next day and he repeated it.

Besides that, he’s an utterly disgusting man who thinks it’s a greater honor to get a medal for giving him money than to get a medal for risking or losing your life in combat.  The Congressional Medal of Honor is only awarded for extreme acts of bravery and valor.  Hundreds of thousands have lost their lives in combat without being awarded this medal.  Yet, this draft dodging piece of shlt thinks it’s a BIGGER honor to get a medal for giving money to the Trump campaign.

No no no what?

That is not an argument.

What did he say the next day?

“Donald Trump doubled down on his comments about how the Presidential Medal of Freedom is superior to the military Medal of Honor because the former involves no sacrifice.

“The Presidential Medal of Freedom, to my knowledge, I don’t think anybody suffered,” Trump said in an interview after his rally on Saturday, attempting to clarify comments made on Thursday. “People [who] get the Congressional Medal of Honor, which I’ve given to many, are often horribly wounded or dead. They’re often dead, they get it posthumously. And when you get the Congressional Medal of Honor, I always consider that to be the ultimate — but it is a painful thing to get it.”

He added, “When you get the Presidential Medal of Freedom, it’s usually for other things, like you’ve achieved great success in sports, or you’ve achieved great success someplace else … I don’t think anybody suffered, other than they’ve, you know, they worked hard, and they’ve done great things.”

Besides that, he already insulted the Congressional Medal winners, he called vets “suckers and losers”, he refused to attend a WW I commemoration because he didn’t want to get wet in the rain, and he said he didn’t want to be seen near injured war veterans because it makes him look bad.  Trump has zero respect for our veterans.

Officials from the Veterans of Foreign Wars in a statement called Trump’s comments “asinine” and said they “not only diminish the significance of our nation’s highest award for valor, but also crassly characterize the sacrifices of those who have risked their lives above and beyond the call of duty.”

So, he was saying exactly what I said.

He was clearly calling out the people having to suffer for the MOH.

Thanks for helping me prove my point.

The VFW OFFICIALLY called his comment “asinine”.

VFW Admonishes Former President for Medal of Honor Remarks

When a candidate to serve as our military’s commander-in-chief so brazenly dismisses the valor and reverence symbolized by the Medal of Honor and those who have earned it, I must question whether they would discharge their responsibilities to our men and women in uniform with the seriousness and discernment necessary for such a powerful position. It is even more disappointing when these comments come from a man who already served in this noble office and should frankly already know better.”

John Kelly rejects Trump’s comments that civilian award is ‘much better’ than Medal of Honor: ‘Not even close’

“The two awards cannot be compared in any way. Not even close.” — Marine General John Kelly, Trump’s former and longest serving Chief of Staff.

Well, I bet if someone asked John Kelly a half way intelligently asked question about what Trump was actually saying regarding what must occur to get the Medal of Honor...
