Positive, negative or neutral, every month. The CPI is tracked every month. That's just how it works. And it's valuable because you can pinpoint changes, when tides turn, link changes to specific events, etc.  July of 22 was the turnaround, BTW.

When you turn on your TV to get your daily dose of lies, and a news anchor or pundit says the word "inflation", they're talking about year-over-year inflation. Alwways.

Every.

Single.

Time.

Pull up a news story from 1974 or 1996 or 2003 or 2021... If they said "inflation" they meant year-over-year inflation. And that's on every channel in North America: CNN, Fox, CTV, CBC, NBC, NPR, CBS, Global, MSNBC...

It's like the cost of gas. If anyone, anywhere in the US says "I got gas for two-o-eight today", everyone knows that means "USD $2.08/US gal". If anyone in Canada says "Gas was one-eighty at the 12th St Chevron today", everyone knows that means "CDN $1.80/litre".

If you're in the US and you say "Gas is 0.58 at the Chevron right now" and everyone peels off towards the gas station, they're gonna come back and kill you when they find out that you meant $0.58/litre.
