August1991
Educated people can understand the notation of mathematics. Years ago, I was a poor tourist in Belgrad on a tram, I recall looking down at the book of the person beside me. It was gibberish. But I understood the math. ==== I think all educated people should also "speak" a computer code. Whether Python, Javascript or C# - or even COBOL - learn another language. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg could all write code. ==== BTW, the person in Belgrad (Serbia, Yugoslavia at the time) had a textbook about linear algebra, the inverse of a matrix. Linear algebra is an example of mathematics that made everyone's lives better in the 20th century. And nobody knows about it. I doubt that Steve Jobs could write code of any use

herbie
But coding still requires words as commands. Math uses symbols. Compiled machine code is definitely not easy to read. Even back in the 8 bit PET-Vic20 days...

Yet billions (billions!) of children can read, understand and solve this problem: 3 + 4 = ? ==== I am old. We live in a new world
