CdnFox Posted September 19, 2023 Report Posted September 19, 2023 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/migrant-march-yonge-and-dundas-sunday-1.6969787 Migrant march for permanent residency fills downtown streets Sunday Migrants, including undocumented people, students and refugees, marched in cities across Canada Sunday to demand permanent residency status for all ahead of the resumption of federal parliament on Monday. In Toronto, migrants and supporters marched downtown, including through the intersection of Yonge Street and Dundas Street, prompting police to say on social media that traffic in the area had been disrupted. The protesters are calling on the government to create an uncapped program that would grant permanent resident status to all migrants and undocumented people without any exclusions, according to Sarom Rho, an organizer with Migrant Workers Alliance for Change. And here we go. IF that's allowed - then we'll have the same problem as the states in no time. Everyone and their dog comes here and is automatically a permanent resident the moment their foot touches the ground and we lose the ability to screen individuals. Moonlight Graham Posted September 20, 2023 Report Posted September 20, 2023 Citizens of other countries don't tell Canada or Canadians what to do. We're already one of the most compassionate and welcoming countries on planet earth and in the history of human civilization, we don't owe people from other countries anything. But we're known known to be a pushover, so I don't blame them for trying. We aren't going to commit economic suicide for 6 billion people of the world's poor. Our government won't heed this request, politically its a non-starter because voters wouldn't accept it, so nothing to worry about. Quote "Without permanent resident status migration, undocumented people are facing massive exploitation at work, are denied life saving treatments in healthcare, live in daily fear of deportation and the pain of family separation," Rho said. That's not true. If you apply legally as a refugee you'll be granted a work visa and a SIN number and a health card while your case is being processed, you don't need to be a permanent resident. You're not a victim for not following the law yourself while demanding others do. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.

We could process claims even slower and maybe they'll get p1ssed off and go home. Then you could get that job cleaning toilets at Subway. Quote
Nexii Posted September 20, 2023 Report Posted September 20, 2023 The problem is if you don't have a path to citizenship then you end up with lots of illegals that don't pay taxes yet use social services disproportionately. This was a real problem in Texas as I understood it. Granted, giving them all citizenship is like waving the white flag and saying your whole immigration process is a failure. Maybe it is? Quote

This word is coming up a lot today but it's an issue of sovereignty. Either we are a soverign nation or we're not, Deport the people who don't qualify. It's that simple. Sure - i'm certain they'll be disappointed and sure canada is a great place and it would be awesome for eveyrone to have somewhere like this to live, but at the end of the day we have the right to build our country as we want and share it with whom we choose. And starting off by breaking the law is not acceptable. Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data
