Colorado teachers union passes resolution declaring capitalism 'inherently exploits children, public schools'

The Colorado Education Association [CEA] reportedly passed a resolution that declares that "capitalism inherently exploits children, public schools, land, labor, and resources."

A final version of the resolution that was passed states that "CEA believes that capitalism requires exploitation of children, public schools, land, labor, and/or resources. Capitalism is in opposition to fully addressing systemic racism (the school to prison pipeline), climate change, patriarchy, (gender and LGBTQ disparities), education inequality, and income inequality.

However, a screenshot captures an earlier draft of the resolution that included a call to replace capitalism with a "new equitable economic system." 

The screenshot of the original version of the resolutions reads "CEA believes that capitalism requires exploitation of children, public schools, land, labor, and/or resources and, therefore, the only way to fully address systemic racism (the school to prison pipeline), climate change, patriarchy (gender and LGBTQ disparities), education inequality, and income inequality is to dismantle capitalism and replace it with a new, equitable economic system."

Some talking points, for the folks on the left who are unable to follow this article intelligently.

 

1. Exploitation of children? How about the CHILD SLAVERY in Communist China? Think those Nikes are made by American union manufacturers?

How about the lithium for those EV batteries? Think the miners are members of the United Mine Workers?

2. Explain how Capitalism is responsible for the "Classroom To  Prison" myth. Explain why this only happens to blacks.

3. Explain how Capitalism somehow caused the Climate Change fairy tale. The LARGEST CO2 emitters in the world come from COMMUNIST ANTI CAPITALIST CHINA.

4. Explain how Capitalism created "education inequality." While we're at it, EXPLAIN EDUCATION INEQUALITY. Why do some kids make straight A's and some kids flunk? How is CAPITALISM to blame.

Unfortunately just like gun death/violence stats compared to European countries it's glaringly clear that our unfettered capitalist system is faltering. A system like ours is nothing new and historically has failed every single time. When the rich control who you get to vote for and supply you with the choices we have you'll eventually be burned. Your turn just hasn't come yet. I take my lessons on sociology from countries that have had thousands of years of governing and have already fallen off the edge to come back with strong sustainable systems like in European countries, Scandinavia, Germany, France etc

1. ALL economics systems are models of human behavior. That makes them models of NATURE.

2. In NATURE, some do better than others but soon all creatures die. So the concept of winners and losers really only applies to sports and ignorant WOKE ideology.

There has always been a growing gap between achievers and non achievers. Capitalism did two things: 1. SHORTENED that gap, and 2. Made provisions for the non achievers to become achievers.

What does the article have to do with the subject of the thread? For that matter, what does it have to do with Capitalism paying for schools?

Capitalism pays for EVERYTHING, and generally the free market makes everything cost less. Without Capitalism, there are no jobs, which means no money to either (a) pay tuition at a private school, or (b) pay taxes to fund a public school.

To answer your question about whether or not "it is enough," it is a fact that today MORE money is being spent per student today than at any other time in history. When I started substitute teaching, the students learned about computers by going to large computer labs, and working solely on desktops, with those huge square monitors. Today, each classroom has enough chromebooks for EVERY student of EVERY grade, and those chromebooks are faster and more state of the art than those desktops of 1999. For that matter, EVERY student (and this is at least grade two to senior) has a cell phone with more computing power than those desktops of 1999.

Stuff like that. More money is being spent and technology makes better use of that money. It doesn't solve ALL the problems of public education. It doesn't come anywhere CLOSE to that.

Capitalism cannot solve all the problems of humanity. But it solves more than any other system.
