White House Signals ‘Significant’ Drawdowns From Strategic Reserve Beyond 180 Million Oil Barrels

The White House on Tuesday signaled “additional significant” drawdowns from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) beyond the 180 million barrels announced in March. But an expert says these drawdowns “failed to control oil prices.”

The final 15 million barrel tranche of the total 180 million barrel SPR drawdown is expected to be announced Wednesday, according to the White House.

 

“This sale will complete the historic, 180-million-barrel drawdown the President [Joe Biden] announced in the spring, which has helped to stabilize crude oil markets and reduce prices at the pump,” a White House fact sheet states.

Biden has also called on the Department of Energy (DOE) to be ready for “additional significant SPR sales this winter if needed due to Russian or other actions disrupting global markets.”

 

The SPR is at its lowest level since 1984, with around 400 million barrels remaining. At its peak, in 2010, there were over 726 million barrels.

Speaking from the White House Wednesday afternoon, President Joe Biden announced the release of an additional 15 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The announcement extends the depletion of the reserve into December as the Biden administration's war on domestic drilling and forced transition to unreliable alternative energy continues.

The cutoff of foreign sources is for what the reserve was created. 

Meanwhile Biden has ALSO announced a plan to encourage investment in new domestic sources to refill it at $70/barrel.

There have always been threats of nuclear wars, food shortages, and there’s always one economic crisis or another. 
 

Today, unemployment is at an all-time low.  The Federal Reserve is raising interest rates in the hopes of causing higher unemployment, which will lower labor costs and reduce inflation. So… is it a crisis that the American worker faces the best job market ever?  I don’t think that’s a crisis.  I’m not seeing any food crisis. When Covid hit, we had a toilet paper crisis, but we managed to eat just fine.
