OK, down with pessimism and sorrow! This pandemic thread is only for positive news. And do we have some:

Israel: vaccinated 21% of population, including about 70% of aged over 60 (1.9 million in total). Plans to complete vaccination by early spring.

The country has reached an agreement with Pfizer for uninterrupted vaccine supply in return for real-time vaccination statistics.

USA: achieves vaccination rate of 1.3 million doses daily

Pandemics impact:

Australia (population 25.4 million): 909 deaths

Taiwan (23.8 million): cases 923 deaths 9

South Korea (51.7 million): 1,464

More good news: Australia today reports 0 coronavirus deaths in a week, the total count is around nine hundred.

Sweden has good control of the virus in their country. Daily deaths near zero. Cases per day are still high, 2000 but trending downward.

Sweden has about 561,656 active cases, of which 561,420 are "in mild condition". A total of 236 cases "serious or critical".

That is 236/561,656 = .00042 which is 0.042%

Sweden accomplished this without many of the harsh measures imposed by other countries around the world.

Note also that per capita, the cost of the pandemics in Sweden is virtually the same as in Quebec. Compare consistent "1.5 meter economy" message from early spring 2020 no harsh measures, vs. two lockdowns a host of obscure and contradictory policies, orders and fines and counting. Again, "desperate" vs. "effective".

Vaccination in UK is progressing at an accelerating pace. The target for Monday 15.02 is 15 million of the population with at least the first doze of the vaccine (approx. 22.5% of population).

In Israel more than half of the population has been vaccinated (approx. 3.5 million).

Canada's current progress: approximately 1.2 million or 2.5% of the population.

In the US, over 64 million doses of Covid vaccines have been administered as of now. Plans to complete immunization of the entire population by 31st of July.

USA upgraded the target for vaccine availability for the entire population by end of May

Yes and some more good news- Canada is going to start receiving vaccines again. We expect a shipment of 900,000 doses for this week.

So the Astrazenica cannot be used by the elderly, who are the most at risk group and slated to be inoculated first. But it's ok! We'll give it to the prisoners instead!

Ontario plans to deliver first doze to everyone in the province by the 21st of June. The target in the US is end of May.

The US upgraded the plans to offer universal eligibility for vaccination to May 1st.

UK reports today (March 20, 2021) vaccinating over 50% population (at least one shot) and the highest number of delivered vaccinations daily. Plans to complete vaccination of priority groups, including general population 50+ by end of April.

Canada is now vaccinating at warp speed. Slightly ahead of predictions and modeling.

1) Thanks to Donald Trump's Operation War Speed there have been 280,000,000 people vaccinated in the US. 

2) Texas had their first day with zero covid deaths this week, despite all the doom and gloom prediction when they opened up their ball park to 40,000 fans a month and a half ago. (Their state has 29M people, about 78% of our population). 

3) Although we started fighting covid two months after the US did, and Canadians were in the top ten in the world to hit 5,000 C19 deaths, only 25,000 Canadians died of covid so far. 

4) We still have our country shut down after almost half of our population is vaccinated, and we are down to 36 Covid deaths per day. We are fighting this thing like crazy.

5) Canada no longer needs to poach vaccinations from 3rd world countries (we only took 1,900,000 doses from them, a mere 10% of our total).
