Bubble...schmubble....some players are infected already and don't even know it.

They're regularly tested.

Seems the problem with baseball is that players are getting positive results after they've already played a game.

Testing still has false positives and false negatives.   The "bubble" is also part political theatre just to get governments to play ball...pun intended.

Who could have seen that coming?

Commissioner Rob Manfred must decide whether to delay the 2020 season, postpone it until further notice or

simply hope the Miami Marlins’ outbreak is an isolated case.

For now, Major League Baseball postponed two games scheduled for Monday night, the Marlins' home game against the Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees' game in Philadelphia vs. the Phillies.

The Marlins have at least 14 players and staff members who have tested positive for COVID-19, and the team cancelled their flight home from Philadelphia after playing three games there this weekend.

It's hilarious that the State of Pennsylvania wouldn't allow the Jays to play in Pittsburgh yet across the state the Miami Marlins visit Philly and potentially infect multiple players on that team. AND the infected Marlins are now Quarantining in Philly.

Maryland also was cool about letting the Blue Jays play in Baltimore. Now the Orioles can't play their next game because they were scheduled to visit said Marlins.

But the Jays were the problem.

Yes indeed....

Today, it is the baseball season, the chaos, the crisis, we chose. Those big rosters weren’t sitting there for no reason. Those stadiums weren’t empty for nothing. The spit tests, the masks, the hundred-and-something-page manual, the opt-outs, the Toronto Blue Jays as vagabonds, those were all real.

It makes the Jay's part of the problem....forcing the baseball season to open during  a pandemic.

That decision came from mlb and the players association.  The "problem" is that no one forced anyone to do anything.  They had an election to reopen or not and it was decided.

OK...can everybody else just "vote" on what to do as well ?

That's what we do.

No one has a gun to anyone's head.

At least not in my country anyway ;)

What's so special about major league sports ?   And that includes Canada.   Why do they get a pass ?

Nothing.  The Jay's reopening proposal was rejected by the feds.

“Unlike preseason training, regular-season games would require repeated cross-border travel of Blue Jays players and staff, as well as opponent teams into and out of Canada,” Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino said, via ESPN.com. “Of particular concern, the Toronto Blue Jays would be required to play in locations where the risk of virus transmission remains high.

The state of ohio had more than double the amount of new cases of covid yesterday than all of Canada combined.

They don't. They're playing in front of empty stadiums and arenas.

The owners are just trying to salvage some of the money they've lost.

You're projecting your dislike for sports on this pandemic. Having baseball back is actually quite reassuring. It's something we lost when this pandemic started and even if it's only an imperfect facsimile, it's a good distraction.

No, I am projecting the obvious inconsistencies and standards, same as with church attendance vs. protests as curtailed by government.

As for sports, I have enjoyed them more years than you, with more domestic experience for "facsimile", fake ass replacements.

Protests are organic things that apparently are protected by your first amendment.

Churches are large indoor gatherings.

Sports are being played in front of no fans. So the crowd thing isn't as much of an issue.

Churches and religion are also protected assembly and speech.   Sports are not.

Teams with many members are still congregating and spreading the virus.   They are not wearing masks and "social distancing".

...just so you can watch fake sports on TV while paying the same price as before.

You can participate in Church Online. Just like we're watching sport on TV.

How do Catholics receive communion "online" ?   How would many other religions practice physical rituals and customs ?

Is that your only example. Even the pope participates in social distancing.

Sports on TV is your religion ?

No, but it's excellent entertainment.
