thedecider Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 It's 2019 and clothing has become disposable rather than something to be cherished. Are we living in a culture where mass manufacturers are marketing more than clothing? Is fast fashion killing the planet, and our ethics, without us even realizing it? Quote
QuebecOverCanada Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 It's less and less like that. Many in my generation (23 and under) are not flashy, trendy kinds but rather simplistic. Remember how in the 2000s everyone had to have a visible brand on their shirts? It's gone. Many are just wearing white/black shirts with jeans/black skinnies. Some are flashing with their shoes, but it's getting rarer too, it's mostly the poor and ethnic minorities who flash their Jordans than anything else. Quote
scribblet Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 Disposable clothing...you mean, wear it once than throw it out. if so I have nothing like that, nor anyone I know. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
Goddess Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 I know some people are slaves to fashion. I have never been. When raising my kids in the 2000's, neither of them were really "into" any certain brand nor did they "have to" own certain items. I have my own sense of style so I love thrift shops and vintage stores. That said, I will occasionally buy an expensive piece, but they are generally timeless styles. I once spent over $200 on a dress suit and I'm still wearing the pieces 25 years later, but in different ways. A couple years ago, I found a jacket I loved - it was almost $300 and I pair it with a tank top from the dollar store. I like when people ask me where I got something I'm wearing and I can say I paid $3 for it at a thrift store or $15 at a vintage shop. 1 Quote "There are two different types of people in the world - those who want to know and those who want to believe." ~~ Friedrich Nietzsche ~~
Akalupenn Posted April 17 Report Posted April 17 Totally agree with you on finding joy in mixing timeless or high-quality pieces with affordable items. I’ve also never been one to chase trends just because they’re trending. I still wear a leather jacket I bought over ten years ago, and it looks even better now than when it was new. I’d rather spend more on something that lasts, especially if it has a story or craftsmanship behind it. Quote

Every weekend we go shopping for groceries and there is a Sally Ann shop right next door to the local Costco. She simply HAS to go in there. I sometimes go in with her but, I can go through a store in 5 minutes then I go sit and wait in the car. It takes her an hour and still I have to go get her. What is it about shopping? She has to touch and feel everything. I just don't get it... Quote Its so lonely in m'saddle since m'horse died.
