I've written my letter. Not too long, just a thank you note, hand written.

I'm putting my Canadian Forces long service medal in along with it, Don can have it, I'll never wear it, my gift to him, on behalf of Her Majesty.

Perfect way for Cherry to go out. Showing his true colours for all to see.

What a joke of a human.

Well played. I'm sure Don will appreciate it.

It will mean the world to him, and they can't take it away from me, I'm MCpl (ret.) CD forever, with the medal or without.

Don taking one for the team, has brought some meaning to this day, I'll let him know.

I'm feeling it now.

Hockey has enough questionable race issues. It doesn't need its commentary to be attacking and singling out immigrants as unCanadian. That was very unCanadian of him and he deserved getting fired for it. Good riddance.

He didn't single out any group. He said "you people", as usual you are "the boy who cried racist".

"You people" who "come here" for "our" milk and honey.

Pretending you don't understand the meaning of words is a common debate tactic but it never works.

That is not proof of anything worth firing anyone over. No one group got singled out. This is literally just the outrage mob looking to be offended.

He had the opportunity by Sportsnet to clarify that he wasn't targeting immigrants and his response was that he meant what he said. So he seems to be more willing to stand behind his words than you are, as you're searching for "proof" that words still mean what they mean.

He will resurface.  Talk about politically proper over-reaction. If what he said was not true it wouldn't bother anyone like it has. Its because what he said has truth to it that makes it  bite and causes the reaction it does.

He meant what he said because it has truth to it. He is no racist he just says it as he sees it. I see where I live which is where he is from the same thing.

All sorts of people don't wear poppies. No one would have been offended if he just said everybody should wear one.

There is nothing wrong with what he said, except the part about wearing poppies somehow being a source of moral high ground, and he certainly should be fired for any of what he said.

"I know what I said and I meant it. Everybody in Canada should wear a poppy to honour our fallen soldiers.”

I guess "everybody" only includes immigrants now, what a racist. Where you going to move the goalposts now Bubber?

Anyone who has watched Don Cherry knows he will call people out is he feels they are not supporting the troops, he has in fact called native born Canadians out for it for more often than he has ever called immigrants out for it. It's not racist just because immigrants get included in that too, it's just part of his supporting the troops brand.

The Woke Twitter Mob is an extremely small fringe vocal minority, who knew?

The irony, of course, is that all this shit does is create or expand resentment of immigrants. Yeah, sure, some people are saying "F Rogers!" But I guarantee you some are also going "F immigrants!" This is something the woke brigades will never understand.

Creating a self fulfilling prophecy, when if they just shut up there would be less of the very thing they decry. But they need to screech and throw temper tantrums instead, like the counter-productive fools that they are.

I guess I'll move the goalposts back to where they were before Don weaseled and tried to say he was talking about "everybody" while still standing by what he clearly said about immigrants. You know what he said about "you people who come here" but are too chicken to accept his words at face value because you know they are indefensible.

Don Cherry is an equal opportunity slammer of Canadians he finds to be unpatriotic and not supportive enough of the troops, and he has done so for decades. Pretending he only slams the immigrants for this is a clear cut case of never having actually listened to Don Cherry or deliberately taking him the wrong way.

That's my feeling also, he just says it like it is...    he wasn't wrong about people, especially in the GTA area not wearing poppies.   IMO in the quest to be ever so politically correct they are distorting what he said, typical liberal tactic.

"You people who come here" is reference to the entire country. You have chosen it to mean only immigrants.  As for immigrants which we all are,  too many of us are complacent. You have chosen to recontextualize the words only to mean who ever you think it is you feel outraged over. You don't speak for my family that is for sure. We agree with Cherry and please don't tell me my family do not have immigrants in them. One of those immigrants is a war veteran he is defending.

Why is your take on what he said the only one there is? In fact its precisely people like you, "you people" specifically meaning you in this case who are faux righteous. Yah you care so much about "you people". This is about you wanting to feel righteous at Cherry's expense. Go on act all shocked and outraged. I am pissed off like Cherry at people who came to this country and that is all of us, who came to enjoy its rights and freedoms but can't take the time once a year to wear a poppy. Its not virtue signalling as Dougie says. Its remembering the dead.

We have to remember the dead so history does not repeat. All of us who came to this country have to remember the price people paid so we can be who and what we are. That is what he said. You want to twist it to mean something else good for you.
