Many would think that Malaysia is a moderate country. At least not as bad as Saudi Arabia and Iran. Well if you make one Small mistake in Malaysia, you could spend a few years in Prison. Not all regions are the same. If a Muslim drink beer in Kuala Lumpur, they will probably get off with warning. If they try it in another State, they can be sent to prison and caned. The social enlightenment that gives way to legal changes that lead away from this sort of parochial mindset was beginning to occur in Muslim countries in the early 20th century. It really wasn't all that long ago that booze was outlawed in the west, women weren't allowed to vote and governments were all to happy to crack a few heads to keep it that way. You make it sound like our society has advanced at warp nine and Muslims are still at impulse speed. Our pedestal may seem like its a mile wide but its still only an inch high.
