Argus Posted March 23, 2019 Report Posted March 23, 2019 (edited) The instinctive reaction to a populist uprising on the part of the political establishment and its media allies is usually to immediately denounce it and its leadership in the strongest possible terms — characterizing it as rooted in ignorance, prejudice, irrationality, emotionalism, and extremism. This is probably the worst of all possible reactions because it fuels the very thing it professes to abhor. What is really required of the establishment if populism is to be prevented from going rogue, is a sincere and concentrated effort to understand and address its root concerns and causes. Switzerland is in fact the most democratic State in the world and is by far the most stable society in the world. 2% unemployment. Rich State. Rich citizens who are armed with firearms.

Argus Posted March 24, 2019 Author Report Posted March 24, 2019 Freedom of speech means freedom for those who you despise, and freedom to express the most despicable views. It also means that the government cannot pick and choose which expressions to authorize and which to prevent. - Alan Dershowitz "A liberal is someone who claims to be open to all points of view — and then is surprised and offended to find there are other points of view.” William F Buckley

Democracy is not guaranteed, and always needs to be defended for moving in the opposite direction. And when Adams' said that, it was quite accurate.

You know what the fellow said – in Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace – and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly."
