Dougie93 Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 I'm not too worried about. This is the safest place I can be on earth, while remaining in the Northern Hemisphere, I dig South America, but no way my wife is moving to Ciudad del Este, so we go down with the HMS House of Windsor, come what may. The Arabs also could buy land from the cash-strapped Sultan...most didn't as they didn't want to pay property taxes and serve in the Ottoman Army. Prudent at the time, I'm sure. 1 minute ago, Dougie93 said: As me ol' pappy used to say, every day is a gift, nobody gets out of life alive, everybody gotta die sometime, son. Global Cobalt-60 contamination would pretty much bring-on the greatest extinction event the planet has ever seen in terms of fauna if not flora, too. That includes the Permian. It would take about 20 million years for the Earth to recover...minus 95% of life. 6 minutes ago, Dougie93 said: Or as I like to say, if the strontium-90 don't get me, whiskey and ceegars most surely will. I do like a good cigar. Strontium-90 wouldn't be created in the massive amounts like Co-60...but it also gets everywhere. The point of Co-60 is that it remains highly radioactive longer than your water & bean supply could possibly last in yea olde bunker. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Dougie93 Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 I don't plan on building a bunker, any strike to the southwest of me is likely to be massive, even if only a counterforce, there's nowhere to run from the black rain, so I'll just sing my death song when the time comes, same as it ever was. All that duck & cover stuff was just to make folks feel good...sort of like shooting AAA at German night bombers during the Blitz. They weren't likely to hit a darn thing... Dougie93 Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 We don't have kids, and I'm too old to give a shit anymore. Optimistic nihilist; in the grand scheme of things, nothing really matters in the end, so netflix n' chill. Quote

If we can off ourselves w/o the use of nuclear weapons...or VX and its affiliates which is also life ending if used liberally...Earth is looking at about a 5 million year recovery with 30% of life remaining to start over. Hmmmmm.... Perhaps weaponized variola is the eco-friendly way after-all... Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Dougie93 Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 I don't worry about that which is beyond my control. I got a nice piece of land right here, I just take care of what I can. Quote

The Soviets did apparently manage to weaponize a hemorrhagic strain of variola (India-1967 strain) in the 1970s-1980s at their germ labs on Vozrozhdeniya Island (now part of the mainland)...that broke a few treaties...(cough). Apparently the remains of this hidden program are still being dealt with. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

The small ones would be toast. The bigger ones would pack. Nature and natural selection would take over at that point. In a weaponized smallpox situation, one might not have the chance to think about such things. By my understanding, it worked all too well. Got out a few times by accident with surprising results in terms of how far away it got from the supposed isolated-on-an-island germ lab. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

Dougie93 Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 I don't actually buy hemorrhagic fevers and smallpox as being significant threats. They kill too fast. Influenza is the primary bio threat. Quote

Weaponized and in its most killer form we can't tell the results if dropped into NYC. Panic would ensue for one. Travel wouldn't be fully restricted for quite some time allowing some out...who knows? They make movies about such things... Flues were also looked at as bio-weapons at said Soviet germ labs. They had a bunch of stuff on the go. Dougie93 Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 (edited) I don't buy it as a battle tested combat proven weapon. Not in my CONOPs, short of CBRN respirator tactical TOPP as necessary. Edited February 7, 2019 by Dougie93 Quote
