Marilyn Trenholme Counsell, a Canadian Senator, said today, during debate on the same-sex legislation, that Jesus Christ would be supportive of the gay marriage bill.

What is going to be her fate within the RC church?

Will she be denied communion like the Northern Ontario New Democratic member of Parliament Charlie Angus?

If she's Roman Catholic she's a blasphemer. Jesus spread the word of God to try and reform people, He forgave them for their sins. What Jesus didn't do was go around and excuse them for being sinners.

This all being if you believe in Jesus and the Catholic Church.

Actually most major religions do not promote homosexuality, so she is obviously on crack

According to the RC church, homosexuality is wrong. But then again, its a rather large stretch to call the RC church christian anyway.

Scripture isn't that clear cut on the moral status of homosexuality. At worst, it is a sin comparble to eating shellfish.

Do you mean like how organized religion has twisted things around since Christ was born to suit its purpose?

At one time priests used to marry, and now they cannot. Have you ever asked yourself why?

Even if it's a homosexual relationship with Jesus Christ?

They still can, and married Catholic priests are common in Eastern Europe. Such priests owe allegiance to the Roman Catholic pope.
In the early Church and in the East the marriage of bishops, priests, and deacons was permitted for good reason. Recent popes have found similarly good reason to dispense from celibacy in the case of married Protestant pastors who converted and desired ordination. Vatican Council II, at the request of the bishops from many countries, permitted a married diaconate, admitting married men of mature years.
Interesting web site

I guess I'm guilty of going off topic so let me add that I doubt two priests can marry.

This isn't a place for stating personal religious beliefs.

Ooops sorry. I wasn't aware that was a rule, given that this forum has been full of people that not only want to state their personal religious beliefs, but want the rest of the nation to adhere to them as well.

I'm not sure where this belief in God's tolerance comes from. He's often portrayed as a kindly sort of fellow, of course. But he is the one who flooded the world because he didn't like people's behaviour. He also rained fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah - which I would think was a pretty good hint as to his opinion on sexual immorality. <_<

Sorry, should have been more clear.

From what Christians tell me over and over as well as from what I have read in various places, as long as you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, you shall be saved. Period.

i think it came from all that business about "love thy neighbour as thyself" and "judge not lest ye be judged" etc.

Who's judging? I think the religious fundamentalists are just spreading the word of God and letting homosexuals know they will not be saved. Loving thy neighbour would involve educating them about the teachings of God so they can be saved.

Dear cybercoma,

How about "loving thy neighbor" up the ass? I guess that is referred to, along with oral sex, as 'sodomy'. Of course, the biblical term for 'intercourse' is 'to know' someone, so I suppose it would be more correct to say "I knew my neighbor up the ass".

But, on the other hand, there is nothing to say that there is one bit of truth to the old bible, except bits and pieces of borrowed history. Even the tale of 'the flood' appeared elsewhere, and before, the bible.

As to the thread, people only invoke Jesus and religion for their own benefit, for really Jesus would have been a Marxist, or an 'Anarcho-syndicalist', but in no way would he have been a 'free-enterpriser'.

Well, there IS that whole deal of the fundamental disjunct between the old testament and the new. Its rather telling that many christians seem to be caught up in the old, often ignoring the teachings of Christ.

Of course, He was OK with Lot offering up his daughter to rapists, and then impregnating her himself....

Wtf are you talking about? o.0 Learn the scriptures before you critique them, or you look like an ass

As for the scripture's stance on homosexuality, it is an issue that isn't even touched in the New Testament (the only testament followed by some religions) but it is blatantly and directly opposed by the Old Testament

Lets analyze the source.

The exact prohibition is:

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

Which seems to condemn the homosexual act but makes no mention of homosexual relationships. It may surprise a lot of SSM opponents but there gay men who find gay sex un-natural and disgusting (it surprised me too when I first heard it). However, these men still want to have long term committed relationships with other men. Can you show me where the Bible prohibits that?

You should also note that the bible make no prohibition against lesbian relationships.

Genesis 19. Read it yourself. But you're right, I was in error - there were actually 2 daughters involved, not one.

Here is a link. I knew the old testament had a lot of garbage in it but this example is over the top - pedophila and incest treated as if it was acceptable behavoir.

I am not suggesting that Christianity condones this behavoir, however, it just shows why you have to be really careful when saying you should or should not do something because the 'bible says so'.
