WestCanMan Posted November 12, 2018 Report Posted November 12, 2018 https://globalnews.ca/news/4641677/chilliwack-anti-racism-advocate-ordered-deported-back-to-u-k-over-his-racist-past/ So this guy admits to being a skinhead when he lived in the UK but theoretically he turned into an anti-racism activist. He has been in Canada for 13 years, has kids that were born here, but he isn’t a citizen yet. Now he’s being deported because of his racist past. I’m not sure what his actual status is here because I’m not an immigration expert. I don’t know whether or not he is here through marriage, if he was honest about his past when he came here, etc. This doesn’t make much sense though, when you look at our standards for deportation here. -You can commit a terrorist act here and not have your citizenship revoked. I get that we’re comparing a citizen to someone who doesn’t have full citizenship yet, but we’re also talking about someone who committed a capital crime as an adult vs someone who may or may not have committed low-level felonies. -We have lots of people here openly speaking at hate rallies and they aren’t facing deportation either. They’re doing the same thing as adults that this guy did as a kid. -We have an admitted war criminal here who isn’t being prosecuted, and we don’t get to know what that guy’s immigrant status is either. I’m 100% ok with kicking this guy out if his former country wants him extradited to face charges for hate crimes, but if it’s just a case of finding skeletons in his closet and separating his family, I’d like that level of intolerance from our government applied right across the board. eyeball Posted November 12, 2018 Report Posted November 12, 2018 The story doesn't go into any real detail about the issue the CBSA has with this guy so it's kind of hard to judge whether this is just some government paperwork glitch or whether the UK is requesting his deportation. Doesn't sound like he's facing charges in the UK given he's taking his son back with him. Seems pretty harsh and unforgiving on the face of it though. It's too bad we'll be losing a reformed anti-racism advocate - we need all the help we can get on that front. 3 Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

There don't seem to be any set standards. People with much worse pasts are allowed to stay. I can even remember one who was a member of a torture squad who was given refugee status. Currently, there are two Asian women out west who are permanent residents who seem to have escaped deportation. One stabbed a four year old boy because he was making too much noise. The other conspired with her boyfriend to rob a bank. And of course, we have the Khadr family... So how exactly are we protecting Canada by booting out a guy who has been gainfully employed and involved in no crime for 13 years? 1 Quote "A liberal is someone who claims to be open to all points of view — and then is surprised and offended to find there are other points of view.” William F Buckley

Now you're messing with a parent's "right" to teach their children their own religion, and no politician wants to touch that with a 10 foot pole. Religion in the West is losing its hold on people. I hope the current rise of fundamentalist Christians and Muslim extremists is indicative of the death throes of religion. 1 Quote "There are two different types of people in the world - those who want to know and those who want to believe." ~~ Friedrich Nietzsche ~~

No I'm not, I'm messing with the West's rosy view of our conduct during the War on Terror, that's really something no politician wants to touch. Hal 9000 Posted November 13, 2018 Report Posted November 13, 2018 People always look for a higher purpose...or belief system if you choose. It's not just about living a good life, people who don't or wont look up to a higher "being" will look elsewhere to fill that gap - it's only nature.
