Michael Hardner
7 year old thread, huh... Ok... Well, it's pretty clear that Harper isn't interested in a theocracy - that's always been scare mongering. But he does play the right-wing card once in awhile to remind everyone that he's no liberal. Shakeyhands
Macleans Radical gays have made the comparison of civil rights and sexual preference rights. In their view, to oppose same sex marriage is akin to opposing the right of women or blacks to vote. Sexual preference rights?
William Ashley
The situation is a very simple one, don't screw around with tradition - it is status quo ante diem. DO whatever the hell you want with new culture but leave the old alone. We need to remove the economic system from the social system and remove the Federal Government from the social system. The Federal Government shouldn't be butting its noses in the lives of people they should be focusing on Liberty - economic liberty for the citizens of Canada and Liberty by insuring peace and order, and Social Liberty by providing for freedom in society for people to live their upstanding and lawful lives to their own. These equal opertunity programs are BS.. just stay the hell out of marriage and get rid of income taxes already... who cares if people are married that is a social cultural status issue, it shouldn't be a federal government concern get the government the hell out of my family life. scribblet
The media should be ashamed of themselves for creating a phony crisis without fact checking - but when did they ever care about facts when it comes to Harper bashing.... At least the star has come out and retracted it's weird story about Putin and Harper playing hockey, another example of shoddy and unethical reporting. http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/01/13/andrew-coyne-on-gay-marriage-shoddy-reporting-and-cheap-politics-create-a-phony-crisis/ This week’s media meltdown over same-sex marriage for foreign tourists was one of the more disgraceful episodes in the long history of phoney controversies in this country: a toxic mix of shrewd lawyering, shoddy reporting and partisan opportunism, all without the slightest reference to the relevant, and easily obtainable, facts. cybercoma
I don't think there's anything to be ashamed about. It was stated explicitly that many of these gay marriages were void if these couples' home jurisdictions did not recognize it. Harper's government did the right thing here by indicating that they wouldn't allow this to be the case.
Battletoads
Not surprising that Harper the homophobe is trying to take backdoor approaches to push his agenda. I think we can all agree the mans too much of a coward to ever face an issue like this head on.
