This guy has tried many times for various positions but was never able to get anywhere but this time he played the system and managed to get onto the ballot.  Candidates do not need to be nominated by the party, they just need to get enough signatures to get on the ballot but previously they had managed to find fake signatures so got him thrown out, this time he collected enough real signatures but didn't submit his papers until the last minute so squeaked in on the ballot.   The GOP were caught napping as they didn't expect him to do it so did not have another candidate ready and it's a district they know is Democrat so they were snookered.

Ted Cruz is telling people not to vote for him as the GOP is soundly rejecting him but it's interesting how someone can get onto a ballot and run by collecting enough signatures.   Seems a bit more democratic than the Canadian nomination process.

He "played the system" by getting enough support within the party to be nominated and by being an acceptable enough candidate to them to go unchallenged.

No, not within the party itself, he got signatures on his own so yes some people supported him. If you read, they managed boefore to get him off the ballot.  They have never supported him.

This explains it somewhat,  they did not want him on the ballot and got him booted before, I guess they cannot unilaterally refuse to let him run on their ticket.  They even made robo calls etc. To warn people so it cannot be said the party supported him.

Did the signees have to be Republican, or could anyone sign?   Couldn't he have run as an independent?

Don't know, maybe one of our u.s. members would know. It is obvious from reading the gop does not support him.

This explains it somewhat, they even made robo calls to warn people but enough voted for him.

The Illinois GOP continues to denounce Jones. A state party spokesman told The New York Times the party would devote resources to supporting a Republican to run as an independent against Lipinski in November.

"Arthur Jones is not a real Republican; he is a Nazi whose disgusting, bigoted views have no place in our nation's discourse," Tim Schneider, the Illinois Republican Party chairman, said in a statement.

No big deal...an avowed socialist just took down the 4th ranking Democrat in a New York primary election.

Nazis, socialists, communists....whatever...they all have the right to campaign and run in elections.

This is true, but some would like to say that this is representative of the Republicans, it is not, they don't want him.

Both the Republican and Democratic parties has already experienced David Duke's candidacies...he actually won a seat in the Louisiana state legislature.

This "Nazi" guy is just being amplified by the current U.S. political environment.

Republicans hated "racist, misogynist" Donald Trump...then they loved him.

Economics trumps Virtue.

They have the right but not the balls, like BC's Liberals the only way to get elected is to call themselves something that they aren't.  The disturbing thing is how well this works.

I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh fanatical criminal
