Scott Mayers Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 Did anyone happen to hear of North Korea's test nuke today? It's blast measured stronger than Hiroshima! It's funny how this topic hasn't been raised here by anyone. ??? Quote
Guest Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 I think a strongly worded letter is being written as we speak... Quote
?Impact Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 Did anyone happen to hear of North Korea's test nuke today? It's blast measured stronger than Hiroshima! They claimed in January that they are testing a hydrogen bomb, if that is the case then it was pretty much a dud. The reports I saw on this recent one were 10kt, or slightly smaller than Hiroshima. The bigger claim, if it can be believed, is that this bomb is warhead capable (ie. can be mounted on a missile). Quote
Scott Mayers Posted September 10, 2016 Author Report Posted September 10, 2016 It was an underground explosion and we have to wait for any reports on any escaped radiation. However, you are correct on the warhead thing. This is the concern right now....that they may be ready to be able to use effective warheads WITH sufficient power. It was actually bigger than Hiroshima other than that it was diminished by being underground. The earthquake registered something in the '5' Richter scale and differed in that the pulse was one solid one rather than a measure of two pulses used to determine the normal rate. Quote

DogOnPorch Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 Ten kilotons can pretty much destroy Manhattan. But the dubious claim is having submarine launched ballistic missiles. That I'd like to see. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

That I'd like to see. Maybe....they would have to get the air burst altitude fuzing working right.....damn...that means more pesky testing. Otherwise a container ship could still get New York City's attention. Not sure the DPRK needs a full blown SLBM capability to rival the existing club, but it does get them to a small enough warhead and basic survivable delivery system. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

As I'm sure you're aware, the tricky part is popping the critter up to the surface for ignition. Plus, I'm pretty sure NK is limited to hypergolic fuels for their bigger rockets. That stuff is fun to have sloshing about on a submarine. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

If it was good enough for the Soviets, it is good enough for the DPRK. Let's review the basics of a viable, nuclear deterrent: 1) Credible 2) Reliable 3) Survivable Pyongyang has the advantage of only having to replicate technology that was created over 70 years ago. Look at the bright side....crazy high property values in Vancouver or Seattle may finally come down a bit ! Edited September 10, 2016 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

It's only now with the Bulava that the Rooshins (have a) half a half n' half SLBM....hypergolic and solid. And it still buggers-up regular in tests. Only America (and pals) have it completely figured out, it would seem. Edited September 10, 2016 by DogOnPorch Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

As soon as it actually uses one, a new crater is born in Asia. But, he's a cocky little f---er. I wouldn't put it by him that he'll wake-up one morning and nuke Seoul on a whim. bush_cheney2004 Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 So let's say Dear Leader (not Canada's, the DPRK's) gets a working KN-11 SLBM with one warhead each with 20kt yield. They start small with the updated Golf-class design with maybe 2 to 4 missiles per boat. So if you live on a West Coast city, all you have to do is ask the famous Dirty Harry question: "Do I feel lucky? Well do ya..punk ?" Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

The only problem with Dear Leader's plan is that he doesn't have a good strategy to protect his boomers from trail and attack. So now he has to spend even more money he doesn't have to counter that. This kind of game is a money pit ! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

The whole region is already wired and plotted for termination with extreme prejudice. Japan is even more worried about it. The DPRK won't be able to fart in the ocean without somebody knowing it.
