WestCoastRunner Posted June 16, 2016 Report Posted June 16, 2016 (edited) An Assistant Professor, Jared Yates Sexton at Georgia Southern University attended a Trump rally Tuesday night in North Carolina and posted an article about the rally. With rallys like this, it's no wonder Trump's poll ratings have plummeted. Will the GOP try and push him out of the way or is it too late? Here are some of what he observed at the rally: But now it was Trump making the case that Clinton wouldn’t help the LGBT community because of her ties to countries that openly discriminated against women and gays, all the while belaboring the shooter’s Muslim immigrant parents from Afghanistan, the words spit out like they tasted foul. “The gays had it coming!” a man shouted and gazed back at the guy who’d called Hillary a bitch. They met eyes, shared a smile, a look of recognition. As if it were some kind of joke. As if 49 of his fellow Americans—49 living, breathing human beings—hadn’t just been mowed down. And the real star, a shirt you could hear vendors peddling from a hundred yards away: “Hillary Sucks, But Not Like Monica.” I walked behind a father explaining the shirt to his ten-year-old son by saying the former secretary of the state, the first female presidential nominee of a major political party, had “let her husband have all kinds of oral sex in the White House.” By the end of Trump’s speech, everything had been touched: His successes in the polls. ISIS and illegal immigrants in the same breath. Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren. The “dishonest” media and Trump’s revocation of theWashington Post’s press credentials, during which my section chanted “Kill them all / kill them all.” At another point, a boy interrupted with “We all bleed red” and was dragged out by security as Trump sarcastically called, “Don’t hurt him! Please don’t hurt that person!” and the crowd replied, “Hurt him! / Hurt him!” As he was led to the doors, a small pack of supporters broke off from the throng and followed as if they meant to pummel him just past the exit. Outside, the lot was filled with more vendors and beyond them cars and trucks with Confederate Flag bumper stickers, decals, license plates, and actual Confederate Flags. In the shadow of one I watched a dad spank his child heatedly, as if the man needed somewhere to focus all his anger. On everybody’s lips were strange non-sequiturs of hate. “You can’t trust Latinos. Some maybe, but not most.” “Immigrants aren’t people, honey.” “You know them crazy black girls, how they are.” I am incredibly grateful I live in Canada. bush_cheney2004 Posted June 16, 2016 Report Posted June 16, 2016 Didn't work during the primary campaign...won't work now. In fact, Trump only got stronger as the parade of GOP stiffs got "mowed down". Wishful thinking from Canada won't make it happen either way. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

waldo Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 the perfect thread title! Sorry...too late....the nomination is in the bag. oh really! Again, the Republican rumblings of how to "dump the Trump" are rising... coincidentally timed with those latest polls showing Clinton leading Trump by double-digits! When Trump starts talking of it himself, today, "where he tells the Republican establishment to just keep quiet"... where Trump speaks of, "having to go it alone... and that he's not worried about doing so... that he'll do just fine on his own" - that sir, that is the writing on the wall! Expect rule changes for the Republican convention, perhaps something to free-up delegates for the first round - the only question is, who will be put forward in place of Trump? Cruz? . And Trump is happy that most Canadians live in Canada too, except for the ones who don't...or overstay their visas more than Mexicans or any other nationals. Something about better weather or trying to find a job in the U.S. you keep plying this nonsense... there's a 't' word for that! You've trotted this out twice in the status updates and here now (and probably elsewhere, I expect). I suggest you first start by understanding just what "Canadian" requires a U.S. visa and under what circumstance... see 'non-permanent residents' for a start!it was quite comical (and timely given all the Trump "WALL" rhetoric) to read that U.S. Homeland Security has never had an understanding on the 'Mexican and Canadian visa-overstay' numbers... only bringing it forward in recent weeks; but again, as I emphasized to you, those numbers are only for U.S. air and sea entry points - "America" has no idea what numbers of visa-overstays associate to land-entry! Best to build that Trump Wall - north & south, hey!you keep flogging this yet... somehow... you think the number significant! As of 2015 that "Canadian" number provided by U.S. DHS is ~90K..... why, that's mice-nuts compared to the ~11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S.. You presume to make a big deelio over ~90K... in the face of ~11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S.? Yours is an interesting position/perspective! But wait now... why isn't U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) doing anything... anything... about those ~90K "Canadians". Wassup with that?. Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted June 17, 2016 Author Report Posted June 17, 2016 Didn't work during the primary campaign...won't work now. The 'Anybody But Trump' drive is on full speed ahead. Kendal Unruh, a Colorado delegate, organized a call with dozens of other delegates Thursday night to discuss ways to block Trump at the convention. The group, Unruh says, marks the coalescing of disparate "pockets of resistance" -- including backers of Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich -- which had been opposing Trump with little success. "This is a coalition of Kasich, Cruz and Rubio (supporters) and we are all agreeing on one goal, which is: Anybody but Trump," Unruh said Friday. Any stop-Trump effort would be nearly impossible to pull off at this point in the election cycle. But moves such as Thursday's call demonstrate that Trump's opponents inside the GOP are trying to organize more effectively. And, perhaps more importantly, it reflects the mounting anxiety inside the party about Trump's candidacy amid polls that show him badly trailing presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. His comments in the aftermath of the Orlando attacks -- and his earlier criticism of a judge because of his Mexican heritage -- have alarmed many in the GOP. "I will tell you, about every two hours people contact me about how to join this effort," said Lonegan, a Cruz delegate and former U.S. Senate candidate. "This has never been done before, so there's no textbook on how to do it. So we're building an organic effort, state by state, to convince members of the Rules Committee to sign onto a rule that unbinds the delegates to vote their moral conscience." https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/dozens-of-gop-delegates-launch-new-push-to-halt-donald-trump/2016/06/17/e8dcf74e-3491-11e6-8758-d58e76e11b12_story.html?hpid=hp_rhp-top-table-main_delegates_1215pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/17/politics/delegate-unbinding-effort-organized/index.html Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. waldo Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Maybe they should have organized a lot sooner instead of waiting for Trump to eat their lunch. Trump thought he had a Republican RNC free-lunch... that he could eat for free off the backs of the establishment he so brazenly suggests he has no need for! Just days back media-wags are reporting on a Trump campaign so lacking in funds it has to resort to not advertising between now and the July 18th convention... the formal point of nomination where the RNC opens up the vault and begins to funnel money toward its candidate. Trump donors have gone MIA and he absolutely can't... and apparently wouldn't if he could, finance his own campaign! #makeAmericaGreatAgain . Quote

Topaz Posted June 18, 2016 Report Posted June 18, 2016 Who knows if either of them, Trump and Clinton are the right one for the White House. Many women are voting for Clinton because she a woman and they want a female President, sad reason to vote for her. The two biggest problem that the US has is the war they are in and their massive national debt, so how long can they keep fighting war and not ended up like Russia did? What a mess. Quote

Icebound Posted July 22, 2016 Report Posted July 22, 2016 It sounds like all this is just a natural progression. https://theintercept.com/2016/07/21/donald-trumps-convention-speech-rings-terrifying-historical-alarm-bells/ "This use of fear to destroy democracy is so old that it’s described exactly in Plato’s Republic, written in Ancient Greece around 380 B.C. "Tyranny, says Socrates in The Republic, is actually “an outgrowth of democracy.” And would-be tyrants always in every instance claim to be shielding regular people from terrible danger: “This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears above ground he is a protector.” Trump said that he is going to “protect” Americans or some aspect of American life 13 times tonight". Guest Posted July 23, 2016 Report Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) Chris Ladd, a Republican for thirty years quit the local GOP Committeemen's Organization after Trump was confirmed as the Republican candidate. Sure many higher profile people are have taken stands against the party, but none have produced such an epic and eloquent resignation letter like Ladd's. Here is a segment: "The Iraq War, the financial meltdown, the utter failure of supply-side theory, climate denial, and our strange pursuit of theocratic legislation have all been troubling. Yet it seemed that America’s party of commerce, trade, and pragmatism might still have time to sober up. Remaining engaged in the party implied a contribution to that renaissance, an investment in hope. Donald Trump has put an end to that hope. From his fairy-tale wall to his schoolyard bullying and his flirtation with violent racists, Donald Trump offers America a singular narrative – a tale of cowards. Fearful people, convinced of our inadequacy, trembling before a world alight with imaginary threats, crave a demagogue. Neither party has ever elevated to this level a more toxic figure, one that calls forth the darkest elements of our national character. With three decades invested in the Republican Party, there is a powerful temptation to shrug and soldier on. Despite the bold rhetoric, we all know Trump will lose. Why throw away a great personal investment over one bad nominee? Trump is not merely a poor candidate, but an indictment of our character. Preserving a party is not a morally defensible goal if that party has lost its legitimacy." Edited July 23, 2016 by Guest Quote
