Boges Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 Burying Gods is bad for the environment. Quote

betsy Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) Who were your gods in Sweden? We bury the dead. Perhaps what you've buried are what could be termed as dead gods, as opposed to the LIVING God? Edited March 30, 2016 by betsy Quote

Guest Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 Iceland is building a new temple to the Norse gods! That's awesome. If you're going to believe in imaginary creatures might as well pick some that can kick but. http://www.history.com/news/first-viking-temple-in-1000-years-coming-to-iceland Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 Wiki says: Svenska kyrkan = Church of Sweden. Third largest Lutheran membership in the world. Use to be the official state church. Maybe they "bury" things differently in Sweden. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Sweden Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

tuvinel Posted March 30, 2016 Author Report Posted March 30, 2016 How can more than 50% of u Americans belive in God/gods? You are normally quite rationell..... why not here???? Quote
msj Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 Btw i like muslims but hate islam! I like people too. But many people hold onto very stupid beliefs. Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Fascism, Communism etc - all the same ideological crap. Quote If a believer demands that I, as a non-believer, observe his taboos in the public domain, he is not asking for my respect but for my submission. And that is incompatible with a secular democracy. Bonam Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 How can more than 50% of u Americans belive in God/gods? You are normally quite rationell..... why not here???? The religions that exist today are the ones that evolved specifically to be the most virulent possible. Keep in mind that thousands of religions have existed throughout human history, and most of them are now extinct, and the world is dominated by just a handful of them. What distinguishes this handful? Their ability to spread and to retain followers. Like a virus, they need to be contagious enough that they easily spread throughout a population, yet survivable enough that they don't cause the hosts to die. There are many examples of religions that didn't fulfill one of these criteria and died out. The point I'm making is that religions have inevitably self-optimized themselves to survive. Curing societies of these religious afflictions will take a long time yet. Quote
betsy Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) Lutheran Christianity is officially the largest religion in Sweden, with 6.2 million Swedish citizens being members of the Church of Sweden.[1] The high membership figure is mainly because until 1996 all newborn children were made members.[2] Other Christian Churches include the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. Islam is the second largest religion in Sweden, practiced by 5% of the population.[3] The remaining population is either irreligious or belongs to other religious groups.[4] According to the Eurobarometer Poll 2010,[6] 18% of Swedish citizens responded that "they believe there is a god". 45% answered that "they believe there is some sort of spirit or life force". 34% answered that "they do not believe there is any sort of spirit, god, or life force". According to the Eurobarometer Poll 2012,[6] the religions in Sweden are the following Protestants 41% Orthodox 1% Catholics 2% Other Christian 9% Buddhist 1% Other 3% The remainder of the population is irreligious, either atheists (13%) or agnostics (30%). According to a Demoskop study in 2015 about the beliefs of the Swedish showed that 21% believed in a god (down from 35 percent in 2008). 16% believed in ghosts 14% believed in creationism or intelligent design [19][20] Phil Zuckerman, an Associate Professor of Sociology at Pitzer College,[21] writes that academic sources have in recent years placed atheism rates as high as 85%, while other sources report that only 17% of respondents self-identified as "atheist".[22] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Sweden See? So, I don't know what exactly you mean by having buried your gods. Obviously....you've buried dead gods. Edited March 31, 2016 by betsy Quote

Guest Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 Too big? Just leave them to rot, then. Let the crows have them. It would be a powerful warning to the other gods that imaginary, impotent, supernatural beings are not welcome here. Quote

I'm feeling a powerful progressive urge to defend those imaginary, impotent, supernatural beings from all this racism ..... (Gods are a race, aren't they?) Quote
