I read an article today in the globe and mail about a Canadian bringing former nhl players to North Korea for a tournament. This will help to encourage rapport between our countries. This is the same guy who brought Rodman to this country.

Given the latest reports of possible nuclear tests earlier this month and threats of imminent tests should Canada encourage these visits.

I'm of the opinion that yes it could be a good idea. It could help to encourage the release of Canadian prisoners.

Sorry. Can't post the link. I'm on my smartphone.

Why the hell does it always have to be us that "reaches out" to other countries? No kissing asses of despots.

I have no interest in seeing Canadians going over there to entertain that scumbag..."dance, monkey dance".

I doubt the NHLPA would allow it anyway.

But on the off chance it encourages discussions to release Canadians, would you agree it could be a good thing?

The nhlpa would have no say in the matter.

No! Not on the "off chance" of anything. If they release any Canadians they are currently holding....then sure, but not without political discussion and a resolution first.

Sometimes friendly encounters via sports, encourages political discussion.

If a family member was held in prison, wouldn't that family encourage any means possible to further encourage release?

Not sure if it will promote friendship but it may boost communication. To isolate yourself from someone unfriendly to your country is the dumbest thing that any county can do. It leads to confusion, mistakes and an easy escalation towards confrontation.

It takes no intelligence, foresight or statesmanship to pull your embassy from any country. We have learned that the hard way. I would hope that our new government will look to establish a Canadian embassy there. Canadians have to play a silly game and go through the Swedish or United Kingdom embassies to any information in and out of there.

BTW There are 23 foreign embassies located in North Korea:

Good point. We need an embassy there.

Nobody has isolated them, but them. And, who said anything about confrontation?

This guy is not an unfriendly neighbour who we is holding our ball in the backyard, this is a third year despotic dictator who has shown nothing close to reasonability.

I suggest that by not having a embassy there that Canada has chosen to isolate North Korea. The issue is not if North Korea is friendly or non friendly, a good guy or a bad guy, but keeping a venue of communications open.

Pulling an embassy out of a country is a silly political game which hurts only the the citizens of the country removing its embassy.

Hurts the citizens of what country? Ours?

To shut down communications with other countries FOR ANY REASON makes no sense.

"To jaw-jaw is always better than to war-war". ATTRIBUTION: WINSTON CHURCHILL, remarks at a White House luncheon, June 26, 1954. His exact words are not known, because the meetings and the luncheon that day were closed to reporters, but above is the commonly cited version.

I suggest that perhaps Winston Churchill had a fair understanding to international relationships.

Is North Korea currently holding any Canadians?

Is North Korea currently holding any Canadians?

Yes.

Hyeon Soo Lim, a South Korean-born Canadian who was the head pastor at one of Canada's largest churches, has been held by the North since February. Lim, who was 60 at the time of his arrest, was sentenced to hard labour for life in December for attempting to overthrow the North's regime.

Didn't work for Rodman and the US.

She helped exposed how much of a fraud North Korea actually is.

We all know about the atrocities being inflicted on the citizens. How do you know Rodman didn't help to encourage discussions for the release of Americans?
