Canada was only fully independent from the UK after our constitution was patriated in 1982. Canada was only fully independent from the UK after our constitution was patriated in 1982. Prince Charles delivered documents declaring the Bahamas a "fully independent" nation on July 10, 1973, but after Hurricane Andrew in 1992, Hurricane Floyd in 1999, Hurricane Wilma in 2005, and Hurricane Joaquin in 2015, the Bahamas has been dependent on aid from the British, the Americans, and others.
