Big Guy Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 The results of this coming election are to be available in real time. With the time differences across Canada, starting with Newfoundland and Labrador. http://globalnews.ca/news/2281127/federal-election-2015-live-real-time-results/ This means that people in the West will already see what direction the election is going before they vote. Is this a good or bad idea for democracy? Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
Smeelious Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Well considering how regional different parties support is...I don't see it being that much of an issue. Though the results in Quebec and Ontario can and do influence the results in BC, for all the difference that makes in the end. You know...if the Liberals are staring down the barrel of a majority, I think we'll see the Liberals flopping in BC Quote
The_Squid Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Most people will have voted already.... If it makes a dofference, it won't be much. Quote
Charles Anthony Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Is this a good or bad idea for democracy?Irrelevent. It is illegal for us to broadcast election results like this until everything is in. This thread is locked until all polls close. cybercoma Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I sent Charles a message also letting him know that the polls are staggered anyway. I wasn't going to start a new thread about it, but I don't think that thread should have been locked. Quote

Results ate going to be all over social media anyways. No secrets. This isn't 1982. Quote
ReeferMadness Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Maybe Charles is checking with legal.... Bryan Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Maybe Charles is checking with legal.... I wonder if Elections Canada checked with legal. If it's an internal rule that they can just change, doesn't that mean it never was actually a law? Quote

The_Squid Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I like that they changed the rule... Social media pretty much makes the rule irrelevant and unenforceable. Plus, thinking that people will change their vote or not vote at all because late in the evening they might here some results from back east is a bit silly. Quote
