BC_chick Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 CPC support dropped substantially between 2011 and 2014 from the 65+ demographic. From 50% to 35%. http://www.threehundredeight.com/2014/07/party-support-by-age-and-gender.html?m=1 Currently, 37% of seniors support CPC (the NDP and LPC both show around 27%). That's the highest number in any of the other groups but it's still considerably less than half. I don't think this time around will be anything like last time. http://ipolitics.ca/2015/05/29/the-ekos-poll-canadians-warming-to-the-idea-of-coalition-government/ Quote It's kind of the worst thing that any humans could be doing at this time in human history. Evening Star Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 Last election, I witnessed a lady come into the polls, and proceed to ask the DRO to tell her who to vote for. She got angry when told it was her choice. She wanted it to be done for her.I was a DRO for the 2011 election. A kid, probably 18 or 19, asked me if the Green Party was the party that favoured legalization of marijuana. He was incredulous when I told him I couldn't provide that kind of information. Sadly, he might have been the only person under 25 who showed up to my polling station at all. Quote
G Huxley Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 Maybe there is a problem with a lack of civics education. Why are the kids coming out of the schools feeling dis-empowered? Quote
Smeelious Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) There was a steady stream of people when I went to vote today. I wish there was more...advertising? that today was a voting day. I think most people would assume that you couldn't vote on a stat, and yet... I suppose that wouldn't create fair elections..... On the whole Strat vs How You feel vote, Honestly people should vote for the party they want, if the strategic vote isn't someone you want. Edited October 12, 2015 by Smeelious Quote
Bryan Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 Maybe there is a problem with a lack of civics education. Why are the kids coming out of the schools feeling dis-empowered? Kids just don't care about politics. It was no different when I was young. Coming out of high school, I was the only person I knew who paid any attention to it. Even the ones who are sure they want to stop (fill in conservative villain of the day) don't have a clue why for the most part. You can make up anything and they believe it. Quote

I think most kids naturally would want to have some say in their destiny. If they aren't understanding how they will create the state and how this has powerful impacts then there is a failure in the education system. Quote

To some degree I'm inclined to agree, but I know my teachers really tried to engage the kids in politics. All it did was turn most of the kids off even more -- they just did not want to hear about it at all. Quote

All it did was turn most of the kids off even more -- they just did not want to hear about it at all. I highly suspect that the reason is that the teacher approached it with the usual pedantic text book approach, which years of inundation with had attuned the children to drown it out. The teacher obviously made it seem like more of the usual instead of successfully imparting that this is something that is directly impactful on their own lives. One could just start with the stats that seniors rule you and your destiny and unless you vote this will continue until you realize who is running your life and that it is not necessarily in your interests. I'm sure that would get some to wake up in a hurry. Edited October 13, 2015 by G Huxley Quote
