Shady Posted September 19, 2015 Report Posted September 19, 2015 During a school science fair, there were things confiscated from me and my friend when we did our science/history project on ancient weapons. With my dad's help we created a wooden mace, wooden morning star with a 5" chain. My friend had several swords. All which were confiscated. In retrospect it might have been a stupid idea. There was no public outcry and our story never made the news. That sounds like a pretty cool project. I guess I can see why it caused a bit of a problem though. Quote
cybercoma Posted September 19, 2015 Author Report Posted September 19, 2015 It's a pencil case in the form of a mini brief case. Kids have been sent home for much less. It's a far cry from a suitcase. And while you're being intellectually dishonest, this kid wasn't sent home. He was taken away in handcuffs and brought to the police station. Quote
cybercoma Posted September 19, 2015 Author Report Posted September 19, 2015 Exactly. It looked like a bomb to the teacher so she erred on the side of caution. You seem to keep missing the fact that they didn't at all err on the side of caution. Quote

GostHacked Posted September 19, 2015 Report Posted September 19, 2015 You weren't arrested, hauled off campus in handcuffs and given a week suspension? No. Strange too. My dad helped us build the mace and morning star. He had a small workshop in the garage, lathe, drill press, table saw, ect .... So we learned things about woodworking at the same time. Lathed the handles, cut small blocks into small pyramids, glued them to the top, painted it all black. They were pretty damn awesome and my dad had fun helping us. The swords were basic ones you can buy at selected shops in town. My friend was fascinated with swords and and knives in general. Don't worry it was not a psychotic fascination. Quote
WIP Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 When my older brother was in high school, he built a homemade digital clock back in 1970 or 71...at a time when it was a big deal...and expensive for the time to get all the parts (about $70.00). Good thing his first name wasn't Muhammed! Quote Anybody who believers exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist. -- Kenneth Boulding, 1973

Canada_First Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 He possibly did do it on purpose. Maybe the teachers wanted the police to act strongly in order to further the agenda of teachers. Quote
kimmy Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 A clock can be used as a timer for a bomb. I would use a wrist watch though and not a big digital one but if that's all you had you certainly could use a larger clock. Thanks for sharing your vast bomb-building expertise, Unibomber! So, are you saying that if somebody sees you with a wristwatch they should call the bomb-squad? Yes, many bombs apparently have timers. They also often have screws, wires, and batteries, based on what I've learned from watching spy movies. Cell phones can apparently be used to make detonators. I think that if we get into the habit of arresting people for having possession of stuff that could be used in a bomb, everybody's going to be in jail. I think maybe we should consider possessing stuff that COULD ACTUALLY EXPLODE a key part of what constitutes a bomb. I think he would've planted it soneplace though and not carried it with him class to class. So, aside from using a big clunky alarm clock instead of a wristwatch, building a box with no explosives in it, showing it to everybody instead of stashing it someplace secret, are there any other clues that your finely honed detectives skills have picked up? Their non actions regarding the possible danger from a bomb suggest the latter. Of course, you will never get anyone to admit it. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

You're welcome.I can provide step by step instructions but I'd be banned so I must stick to generalities. Bombs can be made from household products. Not everyone has the same life. We all have various experiences that shape who we are. I can answer questions about explosives but I'll wait until a mod weighs in before I do. I don't want to break any rules and get into trouble. Plus it would be irresponsible of me to publicly publish info on bomb building. Quote

In Afghanistan they used to just wrap det cord around a few old artillery shells and stick a cell phone in it as a detonator. I don't think Ahmed in Texas had anything even close to that now did he.
