ReeferMadness Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 The argument stands on its own. Which is another way of saying you have no evidence that carbon taxes have any negative impact. Quote Unlimited economic growth has the marvelous quality of stilling discontent while preserving privilege, a fact that has not gone unnoticed among liberal economists. - Noam Chomsky It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it. - Upton Sinclair
TimG Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 (edited) Which is another way of saying you have no evidence that carbon taxes have any negative impact.I have evidence that comes from an understanding of economics. I have explained carefully why those fundamental concepts means that carbon taxes must have negative effects on industries that use a lot of energy (including links to academic papers on the topic) and if those negative consequences were not measured in BC then it is because other factors mean that the negative effects were not large enough to measure. But the negative effects are there because they are unavoidable. You can't get something for nothing. Edited August 29, 2015 by TimG Quote
eyeball Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 Just an honest question here. Do you lefties get up in the morning crying over the mass of guilt and shame you feel about everything? I get up laughing, knowing this scam still seems to move government's to act. Why change a system that works, especially given that science doesn't seem to matter? On Guard for Thee Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 You are spending a fortune to pull a thimble full of water from the swimming pool while other countries are buying extra buckets so they can add it in faster. It is a total waste of time and money. Yeah they said that about Orville and Wilbur too. Luckily they didn't bow down. But don't worry, others such as they, will forge ahead. Quote
eyeball Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 I haven't been reading any 'breathless right wing columnists'. But, I can do basic math. I can evaluate what we are paying vs what we are accomplishing. Maybe people in BC are dumb enough to think that paying extra money is helping the environment in some way. Maybe people in BC are more inclined to take what the vast VAST majority of scientists and experts are studying and prescribing at face value - knowing that deferring to that gargantuan amount of expert opinion vs the minuscule and shrinking number of contrarians is probably the wisest policy. Most people actually know close to nothing about the whole business, after all. I happen to be one of those who has seen the numbers. I understand you're also a self-educumated know-it-all on immigration policy. Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

It is a total waste of time and money. The main thing we've done to undermine our efforts was to allow corporations, with attitudes like your's, to set up shop around the swimming pool. A total waste of the social capital and sacrifice we've been investing in the global effort to turn things around. Argus Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 Yeah they said that about Orville and Wilbur too. That is probably the dumbest reply I've read on this web site in eleven years of posting. Sure. It does. Every molecule of CO2 causes warming. At the margin, and additional molecule will cause the temperature to increase by 7 x 10^-41 C. Quote

Boges Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 So instead of cutting taxes to people that "don't need it". The Libs and Dips want to implement taxes people can't afford. Quote
ToadBrother Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 Sure. It does. Every molecule of CO2 causes warming. At the margin, and additional molecule will cause the temperature to increase by 7 x 10^-41 C. Don't be silly. CO2 is plant food. We should in fact be radically increasing CO2 emissions, so we can all bask in the glory of a green earth, from pole to pole! Well, except for the vast deserts we'll create in areas like the American Plains as rainbelts shift several degrees further away from the equator, the collapse of glacier-fed river systems, an acidic ocean that causes major collapses of many ocean ecosystems, and, oh yeah, greatly increased amounts of energy, largely thermal, in the lower atmosphere. But other than those minor, insignificant, you might even say utterly imperceptible effects, CO2 emissions are the bestest ever!! Yay, fossil fuels!!! Quote
