Wilber Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Obviously not, because he was still on duty for many years. Nothing special about Bland...just another motorist who thought she had "rights" and could ignore the lawful orders of a police officer. Cops are trained to escalate in response to resistance just like he did....taser was next. Most of us manage to navigate such an event without any problem...may not like it...but it's not worth fighting with police over. I think Bland was a time bomb waiting to go off no matter what cop stopped her. She had priors too. Your cops maybe. Dumb cops maybe. Smart cops can make life difficult for someone without using force or even raising their voice. 3 days in jail because she couldn't cover $5,000 bail for what. failing to signal and refusing to get our her car because she wouldn't put out a cigarette? No wonder you have the highest incarceration rate on the planet. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

Wilber Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) Bland could have had her day in court...maybe even prevailed against the charges. Like when? Next week? Next month? Can't afford bail so probably can't afford an attorney so will have to wait until a public defender, prosecutor and judge can make time for her. How long does she sit in jail because of a police officer who couldn't control himself enough to handle such a chickenshit incident? How much time and effort does the legal system have to waste to deal with this non event? Edited July 24, 2015 by Wilber Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

She sits in jail just as long as the law says so. Nothing special about this perp. She could assault and murder somebody later and get lots of hugs in Canada. Hell, you guys are still screwing around with the RCMP-Dziekanski case from his "murder" in 2007 ! Edited July 24, 2015 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Hell, you guys are still screwing around with the RCMP-Dziekanski case from his "murder" in 2007 ! Exactly, nothing special about her, she failed to signal a lane change. Hard to imagine anyone less special than that but it seems to make you public enemy #1 in Texas, capable of murder and all sorts of bad stuff. Hate to get a speeding ticket, never see the outside again. How does an unarmed woman assault a police officer from inside her car and when she is in handcuffs after being dragged out of the car. If there was an assault involved, it wasn't her. In the video the officer even said she never tried to hit him, all she did was struggle after she was cuffed. Sure she called him some names but she was right, he is a pussy. Nope nothing special about this perp, guess that's why one American in a hundred is in jail. Yup, we are still screwing around with the Dziekanski case. Monty Robinson just got sentenced to 20 months today. Considering his history, it should have been more. Argus Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Apparently so is being black around cops. It's curious, then, that we see, in case after case, black people refusing to obey police, running from police, attacking police, resisting arrest, etc. They don't seem to be too worried about police, for some reason. Hate to get a speeding ticket, never see the outside again. My wife got a speeding ticket last week....no big deal. No tears....no drama....paid the $226 fine online. Easy breezy..... In the video the officer even said she never tried to hit him, all she did was struggle after she was cuffed. Sure she called him some names but she was right, he is a pussy. She is alleged to have kicked the officer while resisting arrest. She could have beat the rap, but chose suicide instead. Argus Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 The idea that being anything but completely respectful to police can be bad for your health is, quite frankly, offensive. The profession has gone from "protecting and serving" to dudes driving around intimidating people. I'd be more than perturbed of some cop stopped me for forgetting to signal. Why? It's against the law in that state. It's against traffic rules just about everywhere and is subject to a ticket. Who do you think you are? Are you special? You get to violate traffic laws and how dare the police pull you over? Argus Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Nothing shows how authoritarian a person is than whether or not they think Bland should have just put out her cigarette and shut her mouth or not. You mean how sane. Police will always tell someone who is at all agitated, or who they are confronting to put out a cigarette because in any kind of confrontation it can be and has often been used as a weapon. Either you are a libertarian and think that she had a right to continue to smoke in her own car or you are an authoritarian who thinks that she should have just shut up and done any and everything the cop asked of her. You don't leave any room for anything in between, like being sensible. The dashcam only shows the initial part of the confrontation, including her refusal to put out the cigarette and her refusal to get out of the car. After that they moved off camera, where we don't really know for sure what happened. The next we saw she was already on the ground with the two cops over her. According to police she kicked him in the shin and resisted arrest. I can't say one way or another, but logically, why would he put her on the ground if there weren't some further point of confrontation between them? And yes, I agree that he should have de-escelated. There is a woeful lack of that effort in many of these incidents on the part of police, unfortunately. That does not make her any less an idiot, though.
