On Guard for Thee Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 You do understand that the same thing was done with the F-16 and F-18 vs the F-14 and F-15 I would hope. As the article points out, do we need to go there again. Quote
Smallc Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 As the article points out, do we need to go there again. Are you claiming that the F-18 and F-16 are not successful fighters? Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 Another amazing coincidence.....turns out that most of the same bombs (and some missiles) that Canada has in current inventory are the same as those compatible with the F-35 strike fighter. Funny how that works, huh ? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
On Guard for Thee Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 Are you claiming that the F-18 and F-16 are not successful fighters? Nope. They all had their teething problems, so to speak. The 35 is just too much money for what is essentially the edsel of airplanes. Quote

Derek 2.0 Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 Pfft, stealth code. You're just regurgitating tabloids "Stealth Code"? What's that I wonder? As to the Chinese (or Russian) claim to the advancement of their VHF radars, first, low band frequencies are unable to target/provide terminal guidance to missiles, in addition, low frequencies are not agile between different bands, as such, are easily jammed with countermeasures that were available during the Vietnam war, let alone a modern suite found on a Growler or F-35. There is no such thing as a "stealth code", but there is natural science......Though the F-35 can't defy natural science, nor is stealth a mythical creature like a Klingon Cloaking device, the F-35 is a beneficiary of all aspect signature reductions, miles ahead of all aircraft currently in (or near term) production and development, be it a reduction in returns from its radar cross section, IR or the transmission of electromagnetic noise..........Stealth is not a dead end, this is why all future designs, both manned and unmanned, be it from the Americans, Chinese, Russians or Europeans will incorporate "stealth"........ .... But more then its stealth, the F-35's level of awareness and the fusion of data, and the ability to share this data with other entities via networking, is what makes the F-35 dominant going forward.....Through the aircraft's DAS/radar/comms/avionics/computers, the F-35 (for example) can locate and track a ballistic missile launch and respond by targeting such a threat with not only its own weapons, but those of other platforms, be it land based artillery, a sub offshore armed with cruise missiles, a B-52 with a belly full of JASSMs 300 km away or a flight of next generation UCAVs....... The F-35 is to current aircraft like a Hornet or Falcon, as what the F-86 or Mig-15 was to a Spitfire or Me-109........no comparison and obvious generational change..... Quote

Talking points are what the Harper gov. lives by. Suck em up and open up your wallet to buy the worlds most expensive defense system, that the Chinese have already unscrambled. I think there are better ways of spending taxpayer dollars. Quote

On Guard for Thee Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 You keep being shown why you're wrong, and then you fall back on your same talking points. Well if youre a Harper fan, you must be into talking points, and right or wrong doesn't matter. On a more positive note, it is evident that the CPC has gone completely silent on the F 35 file, so hopefully they have come to their senses and are just putting together a talking point on how to deep six the whole thing. bush_cheney2004 Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 Not a Harper fan ? Well let's just see what Chretien did with his CF-18 "bomb trucks" during the Kosovo War in 1999: Canadian pilots flew 678 combat sorties: 120 defensive counter-air escorts for Allied strike packages and 558 bombing strikes during 2,577 combat flying hours. CF-18s dropped a total of 397 PGMs and 171 free-fall iron bombs on a wide variety of targets including surface-to-air missile sites, airfields, bridges and fuel storage areas. So many bombs...gonna need more "bomb trucks", eh? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

For a couple of years now, the rhetoric breathlessly coming from people like yourself - was that the Conservatives had already committed to spend $45 billion in the F-35 "scandal"!!! You mean we haven't yet spent that money? But I was sure there was a scandal there somewhere. Where did it go? Oh I see, we're on to Nigel Wright now......better luck with that one. Not sure what point you are trying to make, or where you got your numbers, but your breathless attempt to defend your buddy Harper does not remove the fact the F 35 file was one of the things that got him the first ever contempt of parliament label in this country's history. Harper backed off after the scathing audit report form the AG. I guess we will see if they try to revive this scandal. Quote
