On Guard for Thee Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 Not unlike a normally loaded Super Hornet (actually, it's better at all of that than the Super Hornet with normal load). Bomb truck indeed. So reach really really deep into your pocket to pay for something that doesn't do a very good job, at doing something we really don't need. Quote

It will do an excellent job at what it's designed for. It's just not quite there yet (though it's much closer than you'll admit). Stealth is what everyone is aiming for. There's obviously a reason. At best it may do a reasonable job of certain things, such as transporting bombs, as long as it is escorted so as not to get shot down. But the cost..... Quote

Under normal weapons load, the F-35 is better at those things than the other fighters that you've so fond of. The Super Hornet, for example, is far from a performer. The F-35 also has the advantage of not being able to be seen, and of being able to see others far sooner. Edited July 9, 2015 by Smallc Quote

No, that was the hope, but it doesn't work. Generally speaking, stealth is akin to barking up the wrong tree. The Chinese and Russians have already cracked the F 35 stealth code. Quote

On Guard for Thee Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 Pfft, stealth code. You're just regurgitating tabloids LockMart would like to think it was just tabloids. Low freq. radar, which can see the F 35, but cant properly guide a missile, has now learned to cue high freq, radar which can guide a missile, and beyond the distance the 35 can fire an AMRAAM. Boom, youre done. Quote

On Guard for Thee Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 That's why everyone is trying to build stealth jets. Because they're useless. The idea was reasonable when they went down that road. The bigger problem with the bomb truck is it attempts to do 3 different jobs, but it ended up not doing them well. For instance, if you want a fast plane, you make it with a slim wing, if you want a low level maneuverable plane you make it with a thicker wing. The attempt to make a one size fits all was a good effort, but unfortunately aerodynamics didn't go along. Quote
Smallc Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 The attempt to make a one size fits all was a good effort, but unfortunately aerodynamics didn't go along. That's why planes like the F-18 and F-16 have had such a lack of success. Quote

On Guard for Thee Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 That's why planes like the F-18 and F-16 have had such a lack of success. No, they had success because they were designed for specific tasks. Even similar tasks can require specific designs. For instance, take a look at the difference between a 747 and a Concorde. Both pax transport planes, but going supersonic needs a specific shape. Quote
Smallc Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 No, they had success because they were designed for specific tasks. Ummm, no. That's why they were and are referred to as multirole fighters. Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 (edited) Gee, I wonder why Canada has so many combat bomb variants but doesn't need a "bomb truck" ? That sure seems odd.... Dich Cheney thanks you heartily though. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 Something isn't right here....Canada buys bombs and drops bombs in combat sorties but never from a "bomb truck" ? I wonder what Canada uses to drop these bombs....CF-105 Avro Arrow ? It would appear that anybody whining about silly "bomb trucks" has no understanding of such things. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
