Right, and if he's a good dentist, well then.... what's the problem!

It's ok to tell women you want to drug them and screw them without their permission as long as you don't really mean it. It's called having a sense of proportion.

When men and women do not confront and stand up to this type of sexist and harmful thinking and instead let these comments slide, the more the problems continue to perpetuate against women.

You are repeating sexist remarks with violence attached to it towards women and yet you have no clue as to the impact these type of remarks have on women. Why do you encourage and justify this type of behaviour that is highly offensive and distressful to women? I just don't get it. Do you get your rocks off this way? Just wondering why else you would condone it.

Because he's an angry old man. 'Women's lib' ruined his life and women must be punished. :)

Maybe chloroform could fix that.

People have become way to sensitive nowadays. They cannot even take a joke anymore. We are raising a society of sissies. A society of victims, who will always look at themselves as victims first. Trying to find a way to make themselves as victims.

Hey wait a minute: Weren't you the one whining like a sissy in another thread about being afraid of nonwhite people, making yourself a victim? None of those people even made a joke about chloroforming you!

What women? You don't speak for women. Consider the possibility that some women would see this and shrug it off as nothing. I note none of the female students concerned want the male students suspended. That hasn't stopped outraged, ideologically motivated faculty from launching complaints against them themselves.

So who has the right to be more concerned here, the female students involved or the indignant faculty members? Because you strike mas one of those faculty types, windmilling your arms to shove the female students out of the way because they're not expressing enough outrage and fear to suit you and you want to take over and override their decisions.

A sense of proportion that not many men on this forum agree with.

Ha! I don't think these two highly indignant politically correct 'men' are indicative of the male sentiment on this forum or in life generally.

I'm not annoyed. I think it's sad that you've been left behind by a world that's progressed beyond your white upper class worldview.

I think it's sad your lack of common sense and hostility to everyday human behaviour forces you to act like a shrill, frightened old woman.

Oh yes, women have it so hard in Canada. Why, every year they find it more and more difficult to dare to crawl out of their apartments and brave the leering lust and violence of all those icky men on the street.

I'm the one on this thread NOT angry. And I'm certainly not as old as you.

I also don't hate men like you do.

No I just have hostility for assholes who think talking about raping and murdering women is hilarious. As well I should because it's disgusting and abhorrent behaviour. I have absolutely no respect for you or anyone else that finds those things funny.

Ok, not being angry is a good thing. Let's not make it personal either, thanks.

You don't think her calling me an angry old man was personalizing things?

That's okay. I have no respect for self-castrating men who wish they were born women so they didn't have to bathe in guilt and shame every day.

I don't know what you're talking about.

The moment people stop referring to what was written and instead start talking about the person who is writing them the conversation becomes personalized. Would you not agree?

Yes, that sounds correct.

So would you not say jacee was personalizing things in the post to which I replied, and for you to be seen as even-handed, should also have been corrected?

Maybe.. I don't know. I never promise to be consistent, as it's impossible to be consistent to everyone. If I see things getting personal, then I point that out that's it.

You're being evasive. You DO know.

I believe Charles once posted that when he looks at a complaint about what someone has posted he scans back through the thread to see what was said back and forth before it to get the gist of the discussion. I think that's generally a wise thing to do.

Back to the topic:

A few facts of the dental profession and leadership in Canada:

  • It remains a white male bastion.
  • The deans of all ten faculties of dentistry in Canada are men
  • Of the 18 directors of the Canadian Dental Association, only one is a woman.
  • There are no people of colour on the CDA board
  • Many dentists reacted angrily to a July 2013 online post in the Journal of the CDA calling for greater diversity in the leadership of the profession - One dentist argued that rather than worry about diversity, CDA leaders should limit the number of graduates to promote greater profitability for working dentists.

A few updated facts about the facebook posts:

"Dalhousie University is closing its public dental clinics until January to deal with the discovery of sexually violent Facebook posts by fourth-year male dentistry students. "The closing of the dental clinics is one of the many steps being taken so patients, students, faculty and staff are able to return to classes and clinics in a safe and supportive environment".

A petition signed by 150 faculty is calling for an independent inquiry. Brian Leadbetter, the school's director of communications, said the school would launch a task force in January to look at sexism on campus.

About 200 people marched in a Friday protest to demand that Dalhousie take stronger action against the students.

A petition on Change.org calling for the students' expulsion has over 42,000 signatures.

This issue is no longer about the female students mentioned in the posts.

Two? I would suggest that the lack of posts from all the men on this forum are highly indicative.

You sound pretty pissed off to me because 'women' would dare to challenge you on this issue. I don't see any hate here towards men but what I do see is lack of respect towards women.
