I didn't create the habit and I don't encourage or discourage, I just want to stop needlessly throwing people in jail.

Again, you don't know how many are being thrown in jail for mere possession. I would agree that jail is not the right place for such people. Community service would be a better fit.

The claim was Trudeau smoked weed with Emery 4 or 5 times, which is not true.

I made no claims about it. I merely said it was interesting that people didn't care that Trudeau was a liar. And whether it was once or four times he's still lying.

What about alcohol?

I'm of two minds about alcohol. I don't drink myself, but I know many who do so quite safely and responsibly and do not endanger either their health or anyone else's health. It's the abusers who cause the trouble. But do you ban a widely enjoyed activity because of the few who abuse it? We would have to ban a lot of things, then, including gambling. Heck, maybe even sex!

If you call Harper "clean" you're setting the bar awfully low. For instance, how did being "clean" earn him the dubious distinction of being the first PM in history to get the "contempt of parliament" award?

If the Tories wanted to they could hold a hearing now and find Trudeau in contempt of parliament.

All it takes is the votes. So it's essentially meaningless.

Because prohibition has always been so successful.

We're speaking philosophically. I merely said I understood why it would be illegal. I have also already said it should be legalized simply because the societal disruption, cost and damage of trying to stop it outweighs the disruption, cost and damage of allowing it. The war on drugs has been a massive failure, clearly.

That sums up my opinion as well. I'm glad that more conservatives are seeing it this way. I expect the healthier pain management properties will help the older, mainly conservative, demographic come around on this issue as well.

Oh I'm sure Mulroney will give hem a run for his "Airbus" money. The Harper scandals are over the top and seem to keep popping up faster than one can keep track of. We'll see if the Robocalls conviction re-fires the EC investigation. Harper has to be a tad worried.

Evidence I provided here shows that there is no such thing as a safe level of alcohol.

.....and the Conservatives would have a majority on the committee - just like the opposition did in the original "contempt" fiasco.

He quite clearly withheld information from parliament. Even after being asked by the speaker to provide the files after complaints from the opposition, hence "contempt"

No they couldn't, that is done by commitee.

And the majority controls the committees. <shrug>

And other evidence contradicts it. There is universal decision on the subject. Tons of doctors drink socially.

How does the conservatives having a bad policy stance on marijuana justify voting for the Liberal Party?

All the major parties suck and are unworthy of governing. Why not spoil your ballot?

Too bad the budget blew him away before it got to a vote in the house, otherwise Harper could have been pounding rocks in the hot sun. Oh well he's still got the senate scandal, the Duffy trial, the F 35, now Robocalls, etc., etc. Don't shrug, it will be an interesting fall sitting I'm quite sure.

A question you might want to consider is how did this issue get to commitee in the first place. Do you think the opposition took the house speaker into the alley and twisted his arm?

Why would I even care about this? The Tories are secretive? You think that's a surprise? They're competent, which vastly outweighs anything else.

I have few illusions the Trudeau Liberals will be less secretive and even less they'll be more competent.

Because somebody is still going to get elected. Even if you don't see a "good" option on the ballot, there are still differing degrees of "bad".

Actually, there is no evidence that contradicts it. Alcohol is a poisonous carcinogen.

I tend to care when the government refuses to provide information they are duty and legally bound to provide.

Sugar is also very addictive and very unhealthy. It causes many health problems and can shorten one's life. Should it also be illegal or restrictions put on its use?
