I did watch it, that's why I'm saying what I'm saying.

Ok, then as I said to you above, you then don't understand the Order of Precedence of the Canadian Forces.

Posted

In the overall scheme of things, it doesn't matter. again, it just shows Harpers ongoing penchant for self agrandizement.

It does per the Canadian Forces historic Order of Precedence..........

So why didn't the leaders of the Liberals and NDP attend?

Apparently you don't understand protocol of these type of events. It's not supposed to be politicized. Get it?

I do understand (and practiced) the protocol quite well.

Posted

Apparently Harper doesn't.

As per the event historic, he, along with the rest of the Order of Precedence, understood and followed protocol quite well.

They were both out of town.

Yes, I know…..along with many members, both past and present and their families…..In other words, they couldn’t be bothered to pay their respects.

Posted

Nope? Where, per the QR&O and the NDA, in your view, was protocol not followed?

The PM should have nothing to do with it, other than paying respects. The GG is the commander in chief under our system. It should be a day off from politics. Harper couldn't help himself. Things are going bad enough for him already, I doubt this was a smart way to try to score a few points.

Pay their respects to mercenaries?

Not all Canadian politicians are war pigs using Canadians to fight in other peoples lust for death and destruction!

Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! That reminds me, never ask Greg to be a business partner! NEVER!

Let's face it. Opponents of this don't want Harper involved at all with this because they know he'll come off looking good, and possibly gain higher approval ratings from the public. This faux concern about a PM being involved because of so-called proper etiquette, etc is a complete ploy, and totally transparent. Nice try guys.

Sure he's using it to try and look good.

But to many, he looks like a war pig!

If you say so...meanwhile...

Canadians seem to be getting tired of the often nasty man at 24 Sussex

Story

As Andrew Coyne wrote this week, the episode leaves one wondering if Harper “is temperamentally suited to the job.”

Is he in over his head or just losing it?

Below is the defination of Mercenaries.....according to the Genva Convention....So they were not there to pay respects to Mercenaries, but rather members of our armed forces who had answered the call of this nation ...who had faught and bled for this mission...they came to pay their respects to our dead, wounded and those that served in Afghan along with their families and everything thay had to give up as well..

But thats not the reason you posted what you did is it.... Instead your determination to drag our soldiers reputation through the mud is clear for anyone to see....And as much as it pisses me off, it is your right as a Canadian citizen to use your freedoms as you chose, the very same freedoms that our nations military in the past faught so hard to protect and preserve.....Maybe you should keep to subjects you know something about....

This day was not about the Canadian public, politicians, the legion, or past serving vets...it was about the Afghanistan mission, to give 2 mins silence to those that had died, that were wounded, that served and survived , and to their families for everything they had to give up as well....nothing more....sometimes an event is just an event...

The Protocol Additional GC 1977 (APGC77) provides the most widely accepted international definition of a mercenary, though not endorsed by some countries, including the United States. The Protocol Additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts, (Protocol I), 8 June 1977 states:

Art 47. Mercenaries

1. A mercenary shall not have the right to be a combatant or a prisoner of war. 2. A mercenary is any person who: (a) is especially recruited locally or abroad in order to fight in an armed conflict; (B) does, in fact, take a direct part in the hostilities; © is motivated to take part in the hostilities essentially by the desire for private gain and, in fact, is promised, by or on behalf of a Party to the conflict, material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar ranks and functions in the armed forces of that Party; (d) is neither a national of a Party to the conflict nor a resident of territory controlled by a Party to the conflict; (e) is not a member of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict; and (f) has not been sent by a State which is not a Party to the conflict on official duty as a member of its armed forces.

All the criteria (a – f) must be met, according to the Geneva Convention, for a combatant to be described as a mercenary.

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Nope sorry, wrong on both accounts!

NATO made huge Geneva convention violations over in Afghanistan! But now you want the Geneva convention to apply?!?!?!?!?

Pure shameful hypocrisy!

Once again, since Canada has never been invaded without first declaring war on another nation, the rights and freedoms of Canadians have never been in jeopardy! Not one Canadian soldier has died in the defence of a single Canadian on Canadian soil! Your argument is not with me, your argument is with well known history!

There is a strong defensive roll for our military. Much like how Switzerland uses theirs as a deterent to other possible invading nations. But the forces must stay home.

Again you insist on making up history as you go. or become confused to what history has written. at what piont do Canadians start defending this nation....

the reason i ask is history is full of exploits of british subjects who indentified themselfs as Canadians. Such as the RCN, RCAF, WWI, WWII, Korea....plus others that identified themselfs as Canadians as far back as 1775, and including the war of 1812.....Do we have to re write all this history, after all the first Canadian citizen did not make it on the scene until 1947, well after the Second world and yet history records many great Canadian exploits during that period....So which is it.

Below is an example, one of many, that says Candian military personal did defend Canada in Canadian waters.

As for staying home, like the swiss do, The grass is always greener on the other side....The swiss make sacrifices as well , but does not totally protect them hence why they have a large military....wonder why that is...

Here that ....it's the sound of chainsaws time to come down from that tree your hugging and face the real world.

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.
