August1991 Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) While I argued against the choice, a naive Christian East-European friend chose to see this movie. If you're a Christian (or a Jew) and if you choose this movie because of a Biblical connection, don't. This movie has no connection to the Bible, or any known religion. IMV, the producer has only one religion: butts in seats. Do you know Charlton Heston? Do you know Dan Quayle? Russell Crowe is no Charlton Heston. This movie amounts to repeated attempts of Russell Crowe trying to say: "Oh My God" - believably. It's not a rental. If you decide to see it, you have to see it in IMAX. Michael Hardner Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Believing this review amounts to an act of faith, since there's no evidence that the film isn't of interest to me. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
Boges Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Currently 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. I would watch a 76% movie on Netflix anytime. Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 This is a hollywood movie. Did you expect it to follow the bible? An interesting fact about this move is the woman who is pregnant with twins. There was no such mention of a woman in the bible. Kudos to the screenwriter for including a prominent woman in the storyline. We know how bible stories like to avoid prominent women. [/sarcasm] === A more accurate point is that the Bible makes no mention of "Watchers", Transformer-style rocks. But if you want to put butts-in-seats, the CGI data wranglers can create rocks with glowing eyes. Edited April 5, 2014 by August1991 Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 I am specifically talking about Noah. There are no women mentioned in Noah at all. How can that possibly be?? The whole Noah story , if told using only the detail provided in the Bible, would make for an awfully short movie. I read somewhere that the "Watchers" were based on the Nephalim, which are not well described in scripture but are considered by some to be fallen angels. Aronofsky felt that fallen angels would not necessarily be dudes with wings (indeed, the dudes with wings concept of angels doesn't have a scriptural basis.) I have been mulling over whether I want to see Noah. In a book with a lot of stupid stories, the Noah's Ark story is probably the stupidest, and I'm a bit curious to see how Aronofsky tries to dress it up to make it easier for modern audiences to swallow. I am specifically talking about Noah. There are no women mentioned in Noah at all. How can that possibly be?? Yeah, or like who did Cain and Seth marry? If they wanted to have some steamy sex scenes, they could have included Lot and his daughters. Hiyoooo! -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Bryan Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 People (both religious and not) get too caught up in what is or isn't in the Bible. Even if you're one of those who believes that the Bible is absolute truth, there's nothing about that that says that things NOT in the Bible are not true. Each story is a short account from the perspective of the person who wrote it. That doesn't mean that a lot of other stuff didn't happen, nor that a lot of other people weren't around. Quote
